OMG, you did WHAT now????

I would have posted this last night, but I was so tired after work I couldn't do it. But yesterday at work, my boss and I were painting. She had my phone beside her while she was working. Suddenly I heard a plop and she all but jumped and said rude words. She told me what she did and I said, "you did what????" "I dropped your phone in the bucket of water." Oh crap I thought. My phone can take a lot of abuse, it was why it was a great seller for contractors and construction workers as it was so strong. So I grabbed it from her, shut it off, but it turned back on. I took the back off, shut it off again and pulled the battery out quickly. I was surprised though, how dry the phone was even though it had been submerged in dirty water. There was only a little water behind a few keys. I let it dry out for a while, then turned it on when I got home last night. I waited until this morning to charge it though, just to be safe. But it works fine. I've known people to drop their phones in water and they never work again, but not mine, thankfully. I don't have the money to replace it yet, so thankfully it still works. Never want to do that again though.

Oops! That was a close call! Glad your phone wasn't damaged and that it works well. Phones can be quite expensive to replace. Of course, it wasn't you that caused the prpoblem and I'm sure she would have paid for the damage. Right?

She would have had to as she uses it as well while we're working. I guess I just got lucky.

Wow good to hear that it works great because if it were my phone it'll be broken. I used to have an a flip phone, chocolate, voyager from LG and now I have their revolution. Thankfully I had never dropped my phone in any bucket of water or any wet places. So far so good better yet to say because I never know in the future. haha.

Wow that's a close one! I've heard that if you drop your phone in water or get it wet you can put it in a cup of rice to dry it out. The rice draws out the moisture from the phone. I've never had to do it thankfully so I don't know if it works but I've heard that it does.

That's a neat trick that I definitely will try if I'm ever unfortunate enough to have a submerged phone lol!

That's actually kind of a funny story, but only because your phone still works! (I'm glad nothing bad actually happened to it after the fact.) I'm still confused as to how your boss had your cell phone instead of her own...and how did it get dropped in the water in the first place? A previous coworker of mine told me about his cell phone saga a year or so ago, and it's really funny, so I thought I'd share it with you! He owned one of the Motorola Razr's when those were popular back in the day...I remember those because that was my first (and last) flip phone! It was a cool phone when it'd just come out because it was still pretty popular, and it was like everyone had one (kind of how the iPhone is now). Anyway, my former coworker had forgotten his cell in his pants pocket for whatever reason, and his wife accidentally put it through the wash and dried it in the dryer! I think at first, the phone wouldn't turn on or do anything, but he said he left it out to dry a little more, and it started working the next day. He even showed me that the screen was still wet underneath, but as it dried the water slowly dissipated inside it. It was the coolest, yet weirdest thing ever. They definitely make cell phones hard to the core, so that's great you didn't have to buy a new one! (Maybe that's why they're so pricey.) I don't want to find out, but I'm sure my Motorola Droid 2 could take a beating pretty well. Actually, now that I mentioned that, I have accidentally dropped it on the cement driveway a couple of times. It nicked the chrome outer edge a bit, but it still works fine. I'm glad this story had a happy ending for you! (And I'd say next time your boss decides to use your phone in her artwork, she can take you shopping for a new one lol!!)

Hahaha:) YOu narrated it really well. Nice stories here and similar ones too. When it comes to me, I drop the phone 95% of the times when I keep it in my shirt's pocket and bend down for something. How many times I've thought never to keep it there again but do the same, as it is easier to keep and take back when needed if it's in the shirt pocket.

That's so funny - I would've totally done the same thing except most of my shirts don't have the pocket in the front. LOL! I've done something different, though, where my jeans pockets aren't deep enough. I'll put my phone in there when I'm standing/walking, and it fits OK (even though a little of it sticks out the top of my pocket), but when I go to sit down, the material pushes the phone right out of my pocket onto my lap, the floor, or whatever haha! I'm glad I'm not the only one who's a bit of a klutz with where I put my phone. I try to be smart about it and think ahead, but sometimes I'm in such a hurry to do this or that, that I don't even think about where my phone is or what potential action I may do that'll cause my phone to spill onto the floor, pavement, etc. I'm just glad it still works! Obviously, the people who design phones have about thought of everything by now! And if your phone isn't invincible, then you could always buy a case for it that is!

I've heard of that happening, too, where the phone won't work at first, but once it's dried out, it's back to normal. Sometimes that phones nowadays will work completely from time of submerging in water to the time they dry out. I think it just depends on the type of phone, but they've definitely built them to last!

I think the actions you took were basically what I have read that you should do. One other thing I would probably do would be to put some of those drying packets like you get in vitamins in a baggy with them. I save them routinely because in the past I have saved a watch or two this way. I am glad that your phone still works.

What does it matter how much money YOU have? If the phone was ruined, it would be (or it should be) your bosses responsibility to replace it since she is the one who accidentally ruined it.

Thats right. If he is a boss or a worker, it's one's duty to get it repaired if he has caused the damage.

Well mate, just wait for some more time. Your phone might show some signs of breakdown. Just one month ago, I dropped my phone in water and after drying it and switching it on, it seemed to be fine. I was also happy as you are now. But after two days, the screen changed colour and then It was all over.. Had to get the display changed.

My phone is already dying, it didn't need a drop into water to show that. The battery drains within a day, and sound cuts out often on it. I'm just waiting until I have the money to replace it with a better phone.

So the bottomline is that NO PHONE WILL WORK FINE ONCE IT FALLS INTO WATER!!

I think you got lucky on that one. It sounds like it got taken out of the water really fast so it probably didn't get a chance to get really wet to a point of being ruined. You might want to go to the point of keeping it in a pocket or get a case to hang it from a belt or something rather than leaving it laying around. Take care of yourself and have a great weekend!!!

At least the phone you dropped in water is working, I dropped my iphone in water and it stopped working, I had to pay $250 to get it replaced, lucky I had insurance.

Yes I have heard of some carpenter type phones that can be submerged in water. I am amazed that they do carry these as I once dropped mine in the bathroom sink that was filled with water and phooey it was completely damaged. Glad your works just fine and so happy to hear you do not have to figure out how to get another one as a result of it being in water.

If anything your boss would have to give you the money to replace it ya know :p. But still I am glad that your phone survived its plop into dirty water :D. I have always kept cheap phones myself. Each phone has plopped into water, dropped numerous times, into a pile of snow, and skidded across a polished floor for tens of feet, and much more too. Mine usually work after 1 unbelievable disaster. If only they could live through 2 ha ha. I'm glad it's in working condition. Might want to get a little insurance or something on that baby.
