On my way home yesterday I saw a bunch of high school students standing by a store, they are sharing with their Meriendas and and alternately popping a cigarette. 3 boys and 2 girls were the one's involved with that. I wonder where did they learn it? I know there is a new ordinance is being applied wherein those who will smoke in public places will be fined. If this law is applied I hope that they will also ban the selling of cigarettes to minors, specially those students in uniform. Its so alarming that at early age they already know those kind of vices. Should we just let this one???

It's all bad influence, whether it's from peers, families or the community. All the students are doing this to look "cool" or to look all grown up. It's just how to world changes these days. It's not good, but we can't do anything about it. Obviously they don't care about the law, there's nothing that can be done.

I too hate students who smoke and spoil their health. I used to ask them what do they did from smoking? Rather we shall use them for good purpose or for our own benefits. smoking is simply injurious to health and we need to stop them by getting together.

It IS illegal to sell to minors and the fine is huge and they lose their job. But how do you even know they were the ones who bought them themselves? They could have gotten them from another person, stolen them from their parents, etc. Many factors..

Yeah! There are several rebel teenagers who smoke to lose weight, look cool and go along with their friends. In my school, you got got caught smoking in your school uniform, then you'll be expelled because you're ruining your school reputation. I don't get why young people would want to smoke anyway, it damages your health and the earlier you start, the worst it is. Smoking isn't going to get you anymore and you're just wasting your money on them. It's alright if you're an adult because it's your choice to smoke but watching kids smoking is just appalling.

That is a shame but you see it all the time. I've had minors approach me asking to buy them a drink and I've said no. It's not to be mean but the laws are set for a reason. I'm not saying that I have never drunken before I was 21 but if I was caught do I think that I should of done the time for my crime. I say yes I should of. The law can't apply to some and not to others. The reason why I told the kids no is because I though about the fact that I would be engaging in destroying their lives. I think the students should do jail time for this. I know most people would say that I'm being hard but I don't think so. You have to try to reach out to the youth why they are young. The faster you get to them, even if it scares them the better.

I think it is the responsibility of the parents to educate their children about smoking. At the young age they must impart to them that it is bad and dangerous to our health and what might be the possible effect of it. They must also be a role model to them, for their children to follow them.
