Such a change in a year

Yesterday was the first birthday of my youngest grandchild - Olivia. I cannot believe that it is one year since she firs came into the world;and how much a little person changes in that twelve months is incredible! When I think back to this time last year Olivia was a tiny bundle that just slept and eat (and filled her nappy!!) now she is a person in her own right with a personality of her own! She can almost walk, claps hands, waves, speaks a few words and has capturd all our hearts! What is the main change you see in your children as they age that first year?

Hi! Belated Happy Birthday to your grandchild. And congratulations to you. :) You sure are a proud grandparent. :) I'm happy for you. Me, I'm still young. Just 20 years of age. :)

I actually have a son the same age as my 2 eldest grandchildren; me and 2 of my daughters were pregnant together!

Yeah. Way too young. :) Didn't expect you'll be having that lot of grandchildren already. Well, enjoy with your Big Happy Family. :)

Perhaps what I most appreciated was that they could finally talk and tell me where they hurt. Of course, they didn't always know to tell me, but it was the beginning of verbal communication. Of course, children are different. My daughter became more independent ,but my son, not so much.

Yes, my daughter has always been more social and better with people. However, my son was a much better student.

Sadly although my son is more intelligent than his 4 older sisters, he does not put in as much work at school or is not as conscientious about his school work as his sisters were!! He would rather kick around a ball, play cricket or play on his X Box I'm afraid!!

I think that generally girls are the faster learners than boys, in my experience anyway!

I am not around my grandkids enough, and so they make huge changes. My youngest thinks she is just as big as her older sister. Sister is loosing teeth, so little sister asks mom and dad to pull hers as well. She is a cutey, and a parrot. Just a doll.

I certainly see big changes in the grandchildren that I don't see so often,it is scary just how they are growing!!

Oldchem, the first year of my son seems very big change for me. I think back a few years ago, when my son is still a little baby, i spend most of my time nursing and changing his nappy. A few months later, he started to learn eating solid food, where i need to make cereal or cook porridge for him to eat daily. Although it is very tiring but i feel wonderful. Slowly, i see that he started to get interest to learn to talk, sit and even walk. Even now, he is in kindy years, it is like a learning days for myself as well. Because while teaching him, i get to learn and even review some of the interesting words and stories as well. It is just very wonderful to have young children in our life...

Thank you for the wishes and yes although nurturing a child is hard work and tiring, it is probably the most rewarding experience in the world. I have five children and ten grandchildren and each one has brought their own love and personality into our lives!

Hi oldchem, time just fly away and memories just keep on refreshing. That is the nature and we are only players of this natural drama or life drama. I can understand the bundle of happiness was so silent a year ago but now the child is an entertainer for you. Wish you spend all pleasurable time with joy.. may i know the name of this baby..

Hi there Old Chem 1! Happy Belated Birthday to Olivia! I think it is common with us that we feel like tme goes by so fast as opposed to how it was when we were teenagers and couldn't wait to grow up, be an adult and have that promise of what we thought was absolute freedom to do anything that our hearts desire. I also feel the same way with my son who will turn nine on December.

Olivia - My granddaughter enjoying her first birthday.
You are so correct!! As we get older time flies by so quickly!! My 'baby' is almost 16 now and taller than me! This is the picture of Olivia that I THOUGHT I'd added in my original post!!
