As an avid 'make the most out of things' food user, I am keen to make some use out of the huge amount of apples that are abundant at this time of year (at least here in the UK).
For that purpose I am looking to make some homemade cider or even just apple juice for storage but really need an apple press.
Does anyone know of any home made substitutes to the commercial apple presses ?
If anyone has made their own cider is the result worth the effort ?

you can do many things with so many apples.
such as apple juice as you say sweet apple cider.
you just have to make these apples.
nice day!

Hi Nelster,
I also make things from fruits and vegetables from a community garden where I volunteer. I have made apple butter, apple sauce, baked apples, apple crumble. An acquantance has a huge apple tree in his garden. A couple of friends went there to pick them. There were so many they did not know what to do with them. The man also had a grape press in his garage. So they borrowed it and made quantities of apple cider. If you want to preserve it for the winter you really should make apple juice and follow the safe bottling methods so you don't get poisoned if the contents go bad.
