Do you think that taking my own photos to decorate my house could look good?

I have been thinking of different themes to decorate my house, and rather than spend a lot of money on prints and pictures at a retail store, I have thought of taking my own photos and putting them in frames I already have or finding frames at thrift stores. Do you think that actual photographs taken with a particular theme in mind would look ok in a home?

I think that is a great idea. Many, many years ago I did much the same idea. I had beenoverseas and loved a few of my photos, such as the Great Wall, Grand Canyon, etc. I bought frames for four of them and had them displayed for years. You are right that one can biy excellent second hand frames at thrift stores. What theme did you have in mind?

I have taken many photos at our local zoo. I have previously had Labrador Retrievers and duck pictures. I would like to add more color and I think some of the zoo photos would be great. For my kitchen, I am thinking photos of produce, fruits, vegetables, etc. Again with nice color.

I have been trying to break into photography for a while, but tended to focus my photos on what would sell. This is a great idea. You even gave me an idea to try to use to decorate in our home. I would definitely say go for it. You know more what you want to use to decorate than the stores do, and you would have much more control using your own photos and themes. Great idea.

I'm glad I was able to inspire you. I wonder, if you begin thinking about decorating your own home, would it change your style and then possibly increase your sales. Let me know how it goes!

I have seen lots of people who take wonderful pictures that would look great framed. I bet you can do it. The thrift shop is a great place to find frames.

Other source for inexpensive frames are garage sales and flea marktets

I've got quite a lot of my own pictures on the wall. I've had them printed on canvas, 'cause they look better and I don't have to worry about a frame. I haven't gone for a special theme though, although it's mainly nature pictures. Probably because that what I end up take pictures of most of the time :-) I've got close-ups of insects, grapes, a leaf, flowers and lingonberries on my wall now, and a big blueberry and some fireworks.

Almost every photo in my house is one I took myself. Some I printed on my home printer, some at a photo lab. Doing it yourself, seeing your own photos on your walls, or on the coffee table, can be very satisfying. As well as much cheaper than buying a print, or paying for professional photos. I even print out the "silly snapshots" of my kids sometimes, for those not perfect photos holds as many, and sometimes more, fun memories than a stilted, posed, and perfect photo.

It looks great as i myself did it in my house . I took photos of all my friends and relatives . Even our childhood photos and place it properly according to the group and ages on the wall where my dinning table is set . Everybody who comes to our house like that wall and appreciate it.

You would have what you want to decorate your home. It is a nice way to showcase your work.

I do not think anything is wrong with that at all. I think it would be neat and authentic.

That's quite a nice and economical ideas. And it sounds very easy to decorate your home without the need to spend a lot of money as well. The most important is, try to find the correct frame that fit your picture nicely. The others will depend solely on yourself as how you plan to decorate your home with them.

I think this is an excellent idea...and I have seen this done. Some photos you might want to take to a photo shop or online business to enlarge to get a printed effect. I have also seen kids art work framed and displayed and if the right colors are used, this can be quite attractive. Best of all these photos and pictures are personal and have more meaning than store bought prints. Your kids or grandkids would love to see their artwook displayed as well. Or ask them to paint/draw something with colors to match yoiur decor..

I have some my partners and mine pictures around the house but we have not so many. I prefer something printed or other pictures not necessary mine. But its your house and if you like it why not?

I think this is a great idea KizzyCatfish!! You can take photos of whatever you love and have them enlarged! I had a friend do this for me once and I thought it was so thoughtful! I lived in Clearwater, Florida for a year. When I moved back to Pennsylvania to be with my family, a friend from Florida took beautiful pictures of the beach for me ! He had them blown up and sent them to me as a gift. One of them still hang in my home! Good Luck with your project!!
