Why is it that you can stand to smell your own fart while others can't?

I have always wondered this. I am not sure on the answer but my idea is that it is a smell from your own body and so you are able to stand it easier because it is familiar to you. I do also like your idea that others are caught off guard.

Hi Jacruz! I think it's because of the fact that it's ours so we can stand it, we HAVE to endure it because it's ours. I think it's just like the phrase "love your own". Or maybe, loyalty to your own. Would you betray yourself and be disgusted with your own self if you fart? If you know that the fart was from another people, you wouldn't have any problem reacting and be disgusted because it's not yours. You would not have to be embarrassed for your self because it's not yours. ^^

I don't like the smell of mine either.

maybe because our fart have the same DNA as our body so we can stand them...LOL...

I guess it is natural for you to smell your own fart. That is why it is ok to smell your fart than others since it came from you. It is better to let it go on small amount than one time so that no one will hear.

The question is not about the fart people can stand the smell,Its just a way to cover what they do.

It will be funny but maybe it is because we "prod" in what we made, like a kid that like playing with his poo only cause he create it by himself. And i think we will not admit that we can stand others farts cause the we will be weirdos..

hahaha, it seems that your avatar are starts to cover up the gas of mass destruction anyway, we actually smell it everyday, especially if there are no people around besides us, then we release the gas of massive extinction, or either we do it by releasing gas that escape on our mouth came from esophagus..... by burping???

hahah.. yeah! confusing but the two respondents above are correct.. since it came from our body then it would not mind us that much as of how smelly it is..but from other people it is yucky!! hahah
