Is there really use to rating people (-)?

Unless you're one of those who likes to pull people down and doesn't want to get exposed and hides, I think sane and good mylotters doesn't use this. I rarely report a discussion, most of the time i would just rate people (+) positive if the discussion is positive and contributing. The faq say that : If you find the topic, responses, comments, or photos not useful, and feel it negatively impacts the myLot community, then negatively rate that action by clicking on the minus sign (-) next to it. And cannot neg rate if: if you just disagree with a post. But what if the topic gives negative impact and you disagree with it, but it doesn't violate the guidelines? does it confuse you sometimes? Negative Rating is useless to me, i can either ignore the discussion or shed a neutral post on it. Have a nice day

Because I realize the site is used by so many from all over the world I am not to judge on what I think i like and or dislike here. The DRS buttons are not like and or dislike buttons therefore, I do not judge based on if I dislike. I specifically look for what is healthy and or non-healthy to the community. As for if there is any use to rating (-), I feel that if someone is intentionally consistently breaking the rules, then it is necessary. There are times that something may appear to be negative towards the community and so I would prefer to use the (!) report button and let our admin decide. I don't understand either why some do play with the DRS but sadly, as the guidelines state that anyone hammering and or misusing them, will have their own affected as well. This in mind I do try to always rate others simply how I too would like to be rated. Though there is no way to know if it is reciprocated, at least I feel I am contributing the way it is suppose to be done. I have accepted that as long as the DRS is not closely monitored and many are simply misusing it, there really is not much else we can do but educate ourselves in using it properly. Of course we can involve our admin to look further into anyone misusing it, which I have and find that it is the really all we can do if affected by the misuse that is.

letran and hwg I just thought what if we had some sort of questioning of our minusing someone so we had to make out why we were minusing so mylot would not let us minus if we were just angry or jealous or did not agree.it might weed out the trolls as they would show their meanness and get banned.just a thought.

Hello hardworkinggurl, I don't like the negative rating being use as a form of abused, that's one thing am so clear about that. some just doesn't care as long as they are doing it with out being spotted or expose. I don't know but i hope some day mylot will have a program that can check abusers and neg raters have a nice day.

Very true. If someone is blatantly causing problems... they will get a negative rating or report from me also.

There are some who have a blatantly negative attitude and respond to certain topics, usually by certain users, with the intent of causing friction. They are probably neg-rating too and because of this need reporting.

"But what if the topic gives negative impact and you disagree with it, but it doesn't violate the guidelines?" Report it in that case and GAA (admin) will decide what to do with it. I only use the neg rating when I see plagiarists on the lose and when I see flaming but in both cases I report, therefore the neg button serves no purpose. The only reason it seems to be there is as a toy for those who enjoy pushing buttons. You can see who they are if you watch closely as their activity is obvious even though no trace is visible to us. Admin can see it though

Hello Aunt D. I have been doing that, infact i have been reporting responses that are totally unrelated to the discussion.unfortunately there has been no action as of it. as for plagiarist, we only always report them just to make sure that not only the post is delete but so as the plagiariser as well. have a nice day.

Hello Hatley, I know you got a taste of it too but you have slowly recovered from your terrible troubles. but despite of what happened to you, still you were able to recover. this proves an inspiration to every one around you and mylot community. it's a shame indeed, i can only pity those people for neg rating other users. have a nice day.

I guess you have a point. You should consider those trolls, though. There are trolls here, not just those that remain quiet. There are users who just respond about whatever, even insulting other myLot users here. Those are the ones you should rate negatively.

no you should actually report them instead as otherwise you are just punishing them which is the right of mylot admins to judge.insulting should be reported not minused as a person who insults is not stopped by a minus sign bu t by the admins who can kick their butts.

Hello frontVisions, This is a completely different war game they are playing. now that they realize that negative rating can demoralize a mylotter, they're just gonna keep doing it unless the admin figures up a way to flush them out and ban them from here. Be careful and have a nice day.

I think the (-) is just for those who don't really contribute to the whole discussion. Trolls, though, should be reported as you guys said. Their accounts should be cancelled here too.

So far I've not used the (-) button because I've not encountered anything really negative. I would use it, though, if someone were abusive or personally attacked a person for what he said. No one should have to be afraid of that kind of attack here. It should be a safe place, and I want to do my part to keep it that way. I use the (+) whenever possible in a discussion. I want to reward every useful comment that keeps the discussion going -- even if I do not agree with it.

Hello bagarad, That's good to know, no wonder you are at you're highest right now because of this. I've been thinking of starting all over again but i fear that it might caused me severe problems just in case. I hate having an attack in this site knowing there are good people here. have a nice day.

I don't see this as a competition, but as all of us cooperating to make this the best forum for everyone. I would like to see everyone who makes thoughtful contributions with a blue star. It takes nothing from me to help others be more successful.

Yes. It is very confusing. I am not sure how all of that really works. I think alot of people are unfairly rated.

Hello Stephcjh, Yes there's obviously a lot of people are being treated unfairly but there are couple of people that i know myself that are being treated badly with this. I hope such thing will stop some day because they didn't deserve to be treated that way.

I don't see the relevance of the rating system as it has been misused so many times by unscrupulous people to penalize others for reasons best known to themselves. It seemed most ratings were emotionally influenced and not used for the right purposes. We just can't pleased every readers and we are defenseless in avoiding the negative ratings by those who find satisfaction in seeing the sad looks of those whose star ranking have been demoted. The negative rating won't do any good to this site as seen from the high rate of members turnover in the past. When people are continuously being rated negatively, they will be demoralized and would eventually find the exit door. Admin should do away with this rating system that have severe impact on members staying power here.

Hello Zandi, For now i don't see the relevance of it either, unless you are not hear for the benefits then you can use it as you pleas, but most people will be violating a lot of demands. so, that's why some are deleted from this place. maybere there's another reason negative rating exist. have a nice day.

Hi, LetranKnight25. I usually take the time to rate an discussion negatively if only it is really, really negative. Otherwise, I will just rate it positive. Most of the discussions that I have rated so far, are positive. If I come across a comment or response that someone has made, I will usually rate it negative or positive. It all depends upon how I feel that the person has responded to my discussion or response. Finally, I usually rate a discussion, so that it will be much easier for me to come back to this same discussion to reply back. It also helps me to know what discussion that I have already responded to. This keeps me from posting to the same discussion, twice or thrice.

Hello Cream97, If it's really really negative to me then I would just report the discussion and not rate it negative. Sometimes, for me giviing a neg rating is some what not productive since i will be affected too. but of course, if you feel neg rating that person, then why not. have a nice day.

there could be some parts of the guidelines and terms and FAQ's that may be contradicting to us. but i guess the best thing to do and to be safe, is to "just go on to the next top" if you feel you have nothing to add or you are not interested.

Hi Letran Knight: I felt the same confusion on these two possibilities. However I think you rate negative when a person is creating a bad atmosphere with its behaviour but it's not that bad to be reported and maybe suspended. The line between a negative response and a report is too fine it's difficult to notice the subtle difference. I have to say that in some cases where I have found a really negative post from a meMber (Something very weird actually) I have also reported this. ALVARO

I use the positive (+) rating a lot. However I don't use the negative (-) rating that much. I think I have used it a couple of times to a very rude and arrogant comment before. If a user disagree with my opinion, that is perfectly fine with me. But there are users that tends to throw insults, use foul words and don't respect other users. That's the only time I use the negative sign. Recently, I don't use the negative rating anymore, I just use positive rating instead.

Hello Chiwasaki, I report those insults, there's no need for me to allow that foul words to remain in mylot. There are times that mylotters tends to disagree with me as well but recently i decided not to reach that much. like you, i use the positive rating too. have a nice day.

Like you Letran , i don't use the (-) sign. EVen if i think the respondednt is so rude, like i have experienced in one discussion weeks before, i don't use it. I just let the person know that i am insulted and that's it, let it go. It's the (+) sign that i always use.

Hello Simlyd, I don't really the point of the negative rating anymore. either i just ignore it or report it to the admin just to be sure there's a violation of some sort. Yeah, just let it go but i hope i can make a positive reaction to what ever violent post that i might encounter. Have a nice day.
