I don't even think this question should even be asked. My answer for this would be a big NO. have they gone delusional? Have they forgotten what Marcos and his family had done to our country, the thousands, or maybe even millions of Filipinos they killed.. just because of their greed.. I can't believe how Marcoses are so thick faced, don't they have conscience?

My answer for this would be no too- since I have seen both the god and the bad side of Marcos' reign. First it was good- he build infrastructures and made our country proser, then he became greedy and didn't want to let go of his position anymore- he did everything to keep it, killed innocent people... I can't believe how people could easily forget..

I haven't seen the documentary yet, nor have I been born in those days, but I think I do know enough to comment. I believe Mr. Marcos was a competent leader, and that people were satisfied with his performance at the beginning of his term. I also admire his intelligence after hearing that he defended himself in court, and won. With that in mind, I do believe he was too smart for the charges pressed against him, like there were other people doing those charges and using him as cover.
However, I do not see him as a hero. I don't recall him doing any "heroic" work that his people would benefit from. Declaring him hero would forfeit the basis of Ninoy's declaration as a hero, even more so if it were just to secure a spot in the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
And if it was indeed the purpose, I don't find it necessary to declare him a hero. He was a leader of the country, he deserved some respect for that. But calling him hero, is adding insult to the injury our people suffered from.

Yes, I agree with you.. Thank you for that response, it was very well said. Yes, he did help our country when he was still the president fr his first 6 years... It would have been nice if he used his great intelligence t make our country prosper.

Yes, I agree. People need to know what really happened more than 30 years ago... The good side and the bad side of his reign. They deserve the truth and they need to be reminded about his wrongdoings...

Marcos has a lot of contribution on this country. I think he should also be remembered with those things he did. But I don't think it is appropriate to call him a hero. He is an intelligent man, one of a kind in our history, and we should appreciate that. But not necessarily a hero.

Yeah, there's no doubt about it. He did some things that of great help to our country. But he is answerable to many people especially to the owners of companies he had taken ownership without following the legal procedures of the law.
Also putting his enemies behind bars so he can do whatever he wants.

For people who not born in that period or age, it is very hard to imagine the crimes that the Marcos committed. Many people today are not aware of the sufferings of those in the past and would often recommend to mend fences with the Marcoses for the sake of closure of history. However, I disagree with your question simply becuase they are times and situation where the bad and the ugly should be remembered becuase history tends to repeat itself and we should learn our lessons real fast, especially our judgement is going to affect many and other people's lives.
The public might have a short memory but there are some things that should be constantly clear and should always be important. Freedom and forgiveness are just two of those things. The atrocity of the Marcoses should not be swept under the rug and it's time that they should fess' up. No matter no many and how long the time has passed, their actions are unforgivable and and they are doing many people a favor by admitting their mistakes.
I don't want to judge people but I believe the Marcoses, especially the Former First Lady, is living in a dream. She shows no remorse, no guilt and no shame about her past involvement with her husband. I don't know how she even does this on her everyday life. I guess people who don't face the music do live in denial and a world all their own.

I definitely agree with everything you have said. I cannot believe how some people just forget everything that they have done. I think a movie should even be made to remind people of those dark times.. We should learn from our mistakes and not get swept up again by a god appearance and good words..

after watching the documentary about the Marcos regime on K-channel..i really don't know how to answer this question...because yes its true that they made mistakes (bloody mistakes) during those years but if we would also look at those things that they did..well it would really be difficult to choose...while watching the documentary i learned that the Marcoses built many institutions that helps mane people today...some of which is the Lung Center, Heart Center, PICC, most distinguished is the San Juanico Bridge and many more...you should watch the documentary about it..then after watching you can judge them..

I do respect your opinion my friend. Yes, we may say that they have built many institutions that of great help to our countrymen but I think that is what they are suppose to do as an elected officials. In doing so the Marcos family sees to it that they will benefit more from these projects so what is left for the people are only crumbs. And also they put to prison all their enemies so they can do whatever they want without problem.

I don't even want to read the book since I now it only focuses on his good side.yes, he did help our country, if only he didn't become greedy for money and power he wuld have made a great president. But he used his intelligence for the bad.
