One of those days

For the past few weeks it's been a non stop one of those days where nothing goes right and I've been genuinely depressed. However, I know this is just one of those low points and I don't really mind it all that much. I was wondering how many people actually feel there has to be something wrong with them if they aren't for the most part happy? Because the way I look at it everyone no matter what position they're in gets down from time to time and it seems like people are too quick to think they need to see a doctor because of it. What are your thoughts?

While doctors do help a bit..the best way to deal with things is internally. When I'm not happy I know it's because I am not achieving my ultimate potential to it's fullest and thus have to re-think my personal goals, thoughts, etc. I have survived 16 years without ever receiving emotional help from a doctor or personal friend or family member so no I do not think anything is wrong with me when things don't go my way.

Your right about everyone getting down from time to time. The thing about being sad is one needs to treat the cause and not the symptom. If I am miserable with my job or something in my life...no amount of medication is really going to change that. I have to change the root cause. Now I know there are people that suffer greatly from depression and need the medication but I have thought for some time now that it is widely over prescribed.
Take care.

I think a lot of people go through a similar thing. Sometimes life and its many struggles can wear one down. And we get depressed that sometimes feel like it goes on and on.
This discussion is 2 months old. I hope that by now you've bumped the slump, and feeling better.

Like everything I think it is a matter of frequency and intensity. We all get those times we feel down. For me I get these silly thoughts that are not logical, I know this but like anger will cloud the mind so it seems depression does as well. I feel I am the only one feeling that way and the that everyone else is having a great time. Of course it is not true but when you see people around your laughing and having fun times and doing well, you think it. Then you start feeling sorry for yourself and it just makes things worse. That self pity lasts however just for the time period that you let it. We can find ways to deal with our depression. If we can not and we slip deeper and deeper or it last much to long or it always seems to be happening to the point where depression seems normal then perhaps it is time to consider getting help and doctors are a source of help.

You needn't worry about yesterday or tomorrow. Just work your part for today and results will come regularly. Don't get depressed for small mistakes, you need to cross many milestones.

Personally I feel if it goes on for a few months then it's time to see a doctor. I myself have been having one of those days this weekend. It just dont seem to want to end. I have alot of stress in my life because of all my responsibilities but I don't feel I need to see a doctor. People are too quick to go get medicated in this day and age. They need to give it some time to work itself out.
