how can i reduce the time duration of a video or make it play faster?

i have an AVi video and it's length is 1 hour, i want to reduce the time, but i do not know how, or make the video faster.. what software can i use to redure tbe duration of the video or make it play faster? i have powerdvd, but the fast forward thing sucks..

Why does PowerDVD suck? I can use it to make a DVD go 50% faster; 2x; 4x; 8 times faster forward or back; jump to the end/beginning/next chapter; freeze frame. Maybe you have an old version?
I use Adobe Premiere to edit video and you can do just about anything with it though it is a bit tough to learn all the tricks possible. You need a fast computer and a big hard drive to edit video easily.

You could use any video editing software for something like that :) simply cut out the parts you dont want to make it shorter. As for speeding it up also an option in most video editors. Windows comes with one either windows movie maker OR windows live movie maker ;)
