Oh I hate that! I work in a store and between the heavy colognes and body odors sometimes my allergies kick in to the point where it is hard to breathe. At least though, they move on. I don't have to sit next to them and inhale the fumes for hours.. Well, you could get even with him and splash patchouli oil on yourself. That stuff is powerful. There is a guy that comes in to the store that wheres it and the store will smell like patchouli for several minutes after he's gone. Sometimes even his money wreaks of it.

Hi Jazel,
Patchouli is a scent. It's an oil that is worn as perfume and sometimes comes as a room freshner or incense scent. It's a strong, musky scent. Some people call it Hippie Juice. It's actually not bad when used lightly but most people get carried away with it.

Hi jazel!
I can understand your position and when you are already having cough and cold the odor of perfume cold be overbearing. You could tell the guy about your problem and could request him to use the perfume to the minimum. This kind of experience has never happened with me .........lol!

You have done it good letting him know. Now that he didn't do anything about it, perhaps you should post that concern in your HR department. I mean, strong perfumes should be banned in small spaces because it actually causes bad allergic reactions to those who are allergic to strong smells.
There are those people who can't get that they're putting too much perfume on. There are times when my brothers are like that and I always let them know how I feel about it since I too am allergic to strong smells.
So there you go, perhaps reporting the issue to your HR Department could make things better for you if he doesn't listen regardless how many times you have told him.
Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

oh, that's really irritating especially when we are not feeling well because of cough and colds. right now, i am not feeling well so i avoid wearing too much perfume. i also use menthol of some sort to relieve the irritation and headache.

Yes I have encountered a few people who literally drown in those perfume scents. I mean some does sound ok but if they put it too much, it smells too strong and I have headaches. I had this classmate who put on a lot of perfume god!!We were room mates too and my god that wasn't pleasant

Some people just love the scent of their fav perfume or cologne a little too much. If he won't listen to you, talk to your Supervisor or boss. Someone with the authority to make him wash some off and who is also an impartial third party.

I have somewhat experience that. When there is a special occasion party going on at my grandma's house, a party were we really know we have to dress well, like a suit, etc. and when my cousin comes near me, he has this cologne smell that is too strong. I don't put any cologne on but body spray but whenever I go near other people (after passing my cousin who wears to much cologne) they tell me what kind of cologne do I use that is so strong. I figure that is because when I go near my cousin, the smell gets stuck on me because I do stay and talk to my cousin for a long period of time.

ive noticed that about a lot of men. they dont realise that a woman wont want to get near them if its over powering. i try to tell my son that all the time but sometimes he still over does it.

I suppose we all go through this torture at some time in our life. It was a regular feature while I was working but it was embarrassing to point it out and so I suffered in silence. In your case if it is possible for you to get another cubicle far away why don't you try for one!

YES I think its horrible when people where to much of anything.
I have been walking in a store and some lady will pass. The perfume fumes are like she took a bath in it without using any water!
I have asthma and if you don't think that will make you stop and catch your breath LOL
I wear a really light cheap fragrance.
When people smell it they go did you just make sugar cookies? and compliment me on the fragrance. Or some say they are smelling funnel cake LOL
Guess I will get eaten one day LOL
I go in to Victorias Secrets, or Bath and Body and spend a lot of time finding a light fragrance that will be one I like, but not where its going to reach out and grab the person next to me and choke them.
What we have to remember is while the person next to us can smell something so strong, the person wearing it does not smell it as much on themselves.
so if they put a lot on, others are getting the fume overload not them wearing it.
I know it can be sad.
Try going to church and getting about 50 different smells in there.
I completely agree people should use drops not handfuls.

I can stand the smell of too much perfume, but only expensive and branded ones. Really, this is true. :) I get so irritated with perfumes that emit obnoxious smell, as far as my sense of smell matters.

Oh yes! I can totally relate to you! I have aunties who are obsessed with applying excessive amount of perfume which just wants to make my poor nose explode! I have hayfever and my nose if really sensitive and perfumes smells don't really help. Every time my auntie comes over, the whole house would be flooded of perfume and when she has already gone from the house, the home still smells like the perfume. There's also perfume that really don't smell too good, it may even stink! I get really annoyed and just cover my nose when I smell the perfume.

hello jazel,
I understand about it my dear.
I hate it also..I am allergy to too much scent, dust and smoke and too strong scents is my worst enemy.
But we cannot do anything about it, it is their choice and likes.
We cannot tell them to changed their brand, unless we will give them free perfume that suits our liking...hahaha.
have a good day

I hate it when that happens - you smell a scent that is not to your liking AND very strong! I would just gag! So, I feel really sorry for you. Don't worry, perfumes last only a while. Let's just hope he doesn't spritz more perfume later. Ugghh!!! Try smelling coffee. It might just mask out that offensive smell.

hi jazel, terrible, I can't bear it when somebody just enters an air conditioned room smelling like that and I really feel sorry that you get exposed to it everyday. Why not try confiding it to him seriously and in private so as not to offend him cause he seems to treat it as a joke.

I feel so sorry for you..I am annoyed just passing someone in the hall or being with someone on an elevator who has a lot of strong perfume. It is especially annoying when it's a scent I hate...
The problem seems to be some do not realize they use too much because they get used to the scent so quickly.
I think I would just ask again in a calm way if he could tone it down or maybe skip wearing it to the office. Good luck...

Jazel,
Been working all day and encounter such problem like that makes me feed up!.. i don't know if i can handle such kind of situation. Maybe i can suggest to talk to him direct to the point that the scent of his perfumed making your condition getting worst. Or maybe you talk to her like he cant believe that you have a condition like that that's why he thinks that you are some joke.
