Terra Nova - Must See TV!

Well, it is a must see for me anyway!
I am not a very big TV watcher so I am surprised that I am actually starting a discussion in this "Watching Television" interest. I never thought I would!
So why am I declaring this TV series a "Must See" then if I never watch TV? Because I have been working as an extra on this TV series called Terra Nova for the last few months and it looks pretty amazing. This is one seriously big budget production for a TV series. The set is incredible and the special effects are awesome. Think Avatar in a TV series!
I have included a trailer for it below, but if you are in the USA, then you can see the whole thing tonight on Fox as the first episode of the series starts tonight. (Monday September 26th) If you are in Australia like I am then you have to wait one more week as it starts next Sunday night.
So check it out, get behind the series and support it so that they come back and make a second series....pleeeeeaaaase! (You might even see me on TV!) :-)

No worries! You can always catch episodes online later, but it is not the same as watching them on a larger TV.
I hope that you enjoy it!

I am only a background extra, so I do not have a character name, but I have been in the background of quite a few scenes so I will be seen later in the series.

Awesome! I think from memory the first episode that I am in is episode 6 where a man gets banished from the community for murder. I am hard to see in that one though, you have to know where to look. The best ones were episode 9 where there were some close up shots of me watching a show in front of a stage and dancing. Also Episode 13, the final one I get some close ups as I was pushing the character in the wheelchair and was greeting the main characters as they returned to the village.
There were a few other episodes that I was in but like the one in episode 6, you have to know where to look. We have the whole series on our hard drive so I was able to slow it down and pause it to see myself better!
I hope that you enjoy the show. It is not the greatest TV ever made, but it is definitely worth watching and the series gets better as it goes along as the plot starts to unfurl itself.

thanks for this information Bill, I'll keep an eye on you :D
yes, good TV series always get better towards the end. The characters become more and more familiar with their roles. Brent Spiner (Data from Star Trek Next Generation) once said something along the lines: ''as I kept watching the Enterprise on TV I finally thought I was on that ship during the shooting!''
perhaps St. Spielberg has realized your potential and will give you a star role in the next season :-)

i know that this is a seven month old discussion but i'll appreciate it if you can show a link that shows you in the series. a video clip will be nice plus what part are you/did you play in terra nova?
terra nova is currently showing here in manila although i haven't watched a full episode yet. i'll try to search imdb about the series and look for you in the credits.
its not everyday that i can say that i have a friend who's an actor in an american tv series.

Hello my friend. You will not find my name in the credits anywhere as I was just an extra in each episode. So I was playing just the role of a resident in the community in the background. This makes it hard to tell you what to look for. If you are a member of any torrent sites, then you can download the entire series for free to watch at your leisure, but there are issues with the legalities of doing this!
I know that I was in episode 6, 9 and 13, but there were others that I was in very briefly as well. On this page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2089472/, episode 9, I know for a fact that I am standing right behind the lead actor Jason Omara's head in the main photo. I can be seen in this episode watching a children's play during the day time as the camera panned right across in front of my face. I can also be seen dancing in the night time party scenes which were filmed when this photo on the IMDB page was taken.
In Episode 13, I got a good view of myself greeting the soldiers as they returned from battle. I was pushing the guy in the wheelchair who was one of the main actors.

As I try to make another respond to this discussion, I can see there are 4 other discussions started on Terra Nova. When will people learn? Somehow many won't. My point is instead of starting a new post, I just respond to an existing one. I hope you happen to be the first one to start this Terra Nova discussion, if not I make use of this one.
Well,it is OFFICIAL. FOX has cancelled TERRA NOVA. I read that it is considered to be the highest rated TV show to get cancelled. FOX just does not want to take chances because it is too expensive to continue to produce this mega TV show. I don't understand it, but somehow things like this have been going on.
Meanwhile, producers and makers of Terra Nova are trying to market for other networks/channels. Instead of having a major network picking this up, a cable channel needs to do it.

Thanks for letting me know. I had not heard that a final decision had been made on the show. I am not surprised by the lack of interest in renewing it as it was incredibly expensive to make and was nowhere near as great as they were saying it was going to be. But I am still saddened by the decision as I was hoping to be able to work on it again this year.
Being on the set, there was a lot of talk about it being around for five years. I guess everyone was right into it and hoping more than anything. I know that they have a five year lease on the property that it is built on so I guess they will leave the set up for a while (maybe a year or two even) as they try to continue it. I will continue to hope and track the Save Terra Nova movement that is online.

I have never heard of Falling Skies. Did you end up watching the Terra Nova series? If so, what did you think of it? I am hoping that it will come back for another season. Right now it is about 50/50 whether it will or not.

Hi garson. Yes it is a god family show. We watched it a a family and my kids both enjoyed it. Especially when they saw me!
Hopefully Fox will bring it back. There is a bit of a campaign at the moment where people are sending little toy dinosaurs in to the head office to try to get them to make a series 2. Last I heard it was 50/50.

Falling Skies is a TV series that has to do with alien invasion. It is shown on cable in the US. You might have to research on what channel it shows in Australia. It may or may have not started. It stars Noah Wyle (I don't know if you are familiar with this actor or not. He was in ER years ago.
So far, I am very hooked on Terra Nova. It has become more of a family TV show, in my opinion. I thought I would see lots of wars with dinosaurs and such, but it does not. Still, it has been interesting so far. On a critical side, I would be curious about the human civilization at that era, but again this is a TV show.
I read the Wikipedia for the show. It has received favorable ratings and it seems profitable for FOX. Fox has not decided if it will return. In my opinion, more likely it will.

I'm not a big TV watcher either (I hang around more on YT) but hey, if you're on the show, bring it on man! :D
A second chance, that's perhaps what we would really need! Unfortunately we only got one. Maybe we can see good suggestions in the series what we could do better and what we better shouldn't repeat. Humans tend to forget and hence they make the same mistakes again.
Probably the series will be aired in a couple of years over here, too. We are always way behind when it comes to new foreign TV series. But I'm sure I could see it on YT sooner or later and earlier of course :-) Just drop me a message as soon as there's an episode available in which you appear. You will probably play a teacher or some kind of wise guy, lol, someone whose knowledge is desperately needed when starting anew.

I have only been playing a regular resident in the background mostly, but was also a gardener once too. I was checking out their edible weeds in the garden!
It will be available online somewhere soon in the next few days or weeks. I will send you a link when I find episodes online.
Yes, we do tend to forget our mistakes and repeat them eventually. They are going all organic and renewable in this new colony. Something that we have to do in the real world.

There are similarities to Avatar in this show. Some of the same crew worked on both as well as Stephen Lang being a lead actor in both. It is a lot of fun. The crew, cast members and and all the extras are a lot of fun to work with. There is always a great atmosphere on the set.

Sorry Bill, I meant a week. I am on a satellite connection and now you mention it I think I heard somewhere a while back that my particular satellite is not capable of (is it streaming?)sending movies. I've never done anything like that because 1, I don't know how & 2, even watching a small amount of Youtube or similar eats up my data allocation.

I hope you enjoy it but the premise seems ridiculous to me. If time travel was possible and they had to go back in time to save society then why go back to a point where dinosaurs still existed? Why go back in time prior to whatever wiped the dinosaurs off the face of the earth whether it was an ice age, a comet, or meteor, or whatever it was? Why not go back to a much more recent point in time, say, 20,000 years ago, post dinosaurs, post ice age, post comet? Again, it just seems ridiculous to me. I got all excited for Falling Skies only to be extremely disappointed with that show and I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to be just as disappointed with Terra Nova. But if you do end up enjoying it then good for you.

I initially thought the same things about the whole time travel thing. My understanding of the story line now is that they did not build this time portal. It was discovered and they had no control over what time it went back to. It is also an alternative earth so any changes they make will not affect their old reality. As opposed to the film 'Back To The Future'!
As for the dinosaurs being wiped off the earth and the fact that they will too. They went back so far in time that the time between their 'present' and the time when the dinosaurs get wiped out is way longer than the time that humans have actually been around on earth evolving, so that is not really relevant. It is 20 million years beforehand actually according to this article: http://www.terranovatv.net/news/why-terra-nova-has-no-worries-about-extinction/
Their colony can do an awful lot of living in 20 million years!
One thing that we have to remember though is that it is just TV! It is not supposed to be completely factual! We can make up stuff for the sake of entertainment!

Wow! That is so awesome for you to be on TV and on such a cool new show. I'm not a regular TV watcher either, but my husband is and he had told our 10 year old son and 8 year old daughter who love dinosaurs about it.
He remembered that it was premiering last night so we all watched it along with my my 15 year old son and we all loved it! We were glued to the TV! I have to say, I haven't watched TV like that probably since Buffy or Charmed.
You know like when you go to the kitchen during commercial break and the kids are like "mom it's back on." So I'm running to get back to the sofa LOL!!! I had no idea how much I missed that. So I'm happy to have a favorite show that we all can enjoy. Terra Nova is definitely a must see!

Wow! That is awesome that your whole family watched it together and loved it. We are looking forward to doing the same each week as a family. The fact that I was a part of it just makes it that much more special too. The parts that I have seen look pretty cool, so it will be great to see it all put together as a complete story.

Very nice!! Oh, and definitely this series is going to have a 2nd season, because it's kind the same expectation that Lost had.
I didn't watched yet, because here in my country it only go to air on 10th of October and I'm not that fanatic to download the series. But, my friends are and they told me that Terra Nova is awesome, one of my friend watched the first episode 3 times already.

It aired here in Australia last night and we all gathered around the TV as a family to watch it. We all enjoyed it but it was weird for me to be seeing a place that I have worked and so many people I have worked with on the big screen. A bizarre feeling! I guess I will get used to that.
From the feedback that I have read online mainly from the USA viewers of last week, it will be a hit as they all seemed to like it mostly. There are a few intertwining story lines that popped up in the first two hour episode that I can definitely see continuing throughout the whole series.

Well... if it has not been telecast... you have not watch it on television. Funny man. lol
My biggest problem with television these days is that I don't buy a TV program anymore. And without a program, I don't have a clue about what is on TV.
So if I turn the TV on... I leave it on the ABC the whole night.

No, I have not watched it on TV yet, but I have seen many scenes being filmed and looked at every single trailer and sneak peek video there is I think!
I do not have a TV guide either and have not had one for well over a decade I think. But I do have a digital TV set top box so I have some sort of a guide on there, but I never really scroll through it. I normally know when there is something that I want to watch (such as a game of footy) and then turn it on just as it starts.

I did look at the trailer and it does look intersting. Unfortunately at this time I don't have a TV. I use to be a big time TV fan, but over the last couple of years I have gotten away from it. It is so funny to me that most of the people I know who do not watch TV are in fact ON TV. Now that we have gotten rid of our TV, even my own daughter has been seen on a few news clips (and even this past weekend we were at a groung breaking and trying to get away from the TV cameras when she was pulled in to hold a sign next to the mayor and a few city councilmen). I will try to get my stepmother to tape the show for me and hopefully I will get to see it. Please be sure to ren=mind of the episodes that you will be on so we can look for you .

It has been funny being involved in this industry as I hear other new extras getting excited over seeing a celebrity, but I have no idea who they are.
People talk about this show and that one, films and all that and I just sit there with a blank look on my face as I have not much of a clue! I really must get up to speed on some of this stuff if I want to continue in the industry!
I have been on the TV news and in newspapers before too. It is funny to see yourself on TV. My kids think it is awesome! I might have to do an updated discussion as soon as I know the episodes I will be in. I am not sure of their numbers but I know the story lines of them. They have only released descriptions of the episodes up to number 4 online so far.

It really is Spielberg style although he does not have a lot to do with it. He was involved in getting it started but has left it to others since then. I am not a sci-fi fan either, but this is more than sci-fi. It has lots of drama, action special effects so it will be a well rounded show that is popular with many different types of people I feel.
I think the Portuguese language when related to this type of thing stems back to the days a few centuries back when the Portuguese were sailing the world and discovering 'new' lands. Australia was originally known as Terra Australis meaning Southern Land or something like that. I think the name goes back to Latin.
