Mine would be the "The Shining". It is a film adaptation of one of Stephen Kings novels of the same title. It is a great movie starred by Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and Danny Lloyd. The movie is about a writer who takes the job of care-taking an isolated hotel. He takes his wife and son (who is gifted with a psychic ability) at his job. Together, they experience such disturbing supernatural presences as they move in to the hotel. Even if the movie centered only to three characters,it became one of the best and most horrifying films I've ever watched in my whole life. Way better than those gruesome films such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Saw. Since I haven't read the book, there are still some scenes in the movie that i don't understand and a lot questions came out of my head after watching it. That's why my hands are getting really itchy for the novel.

Mine is Shutter Island. It really makes you think and the ending will throw you because what you thought was reality, was not. I highly recommend it.

The novel is one of the best Stephen King has ever written. To be honest, he hasn't really written anything good in like 20 years at least. His early work is definitely the best. So I recommend reading the novel too:) It differs in a lot of things from the movie but each can stand on its own I think. The novel is a masterpiece and the movie as well, they're just so different. King hated Kubrick's adaptation.. The Shining is also one of my favorite psychological thriller/horror, but if I'd have to say another one: Silence of the Lambs. Everyone should watch this movie. Great screenplay, great directorial work, all the acting is superb and the whole atmosphere of the movie is just creepy. It is full of suspense and I think you can watch it like a hundred times and still not get bored of it. At least that's how I feel, I think I saw it more than a two dozen times already in the last 15 years.

Silence of the lambs was also a great movie for me. But it was a bit to gory when I first saw it because I was way to young.

I agree with you. "The Shining" is my most favorite of Stephen King's novels to be adapted into a movie, as well. The acting is outstanding, what with Academy Award winning actors such as Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall. I saw "The Shining" many, many, years ago back when I was in either the 3rd or 4th grade. As for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I saw the very first version that was made, back when I was in high school, on video cassette. I found it to be tasteless and nothing but gruesome killings with no point and no plot. What I especially enjoyed about Stephen King's "The Shining" was the fact that there was a plot, and it was incredible, enthralling, and suspenseful. But then again, Stephen King is after all one of the greatest masters in the Writing field itself.

Silence of the Lambs was great. But I would love to watch The Shining too because I've heard so many good reviews about this film.

Chainsaw massacre is just too gory for me to enjoy..I don't like seeing peoples parts being removed and blood splattering everywhere. Certainly not my favorite but the Fog was the scariest for me. I almost wish I had not seen it. I do think movies like the Exorcist are fun to watch because it is a triumph of good over evil... I don't know if anyone would classify that as a horror movie?
