Yeap, you heard me, I wont' buy a new set of clothes because I need it as motivation to get down to the sizes that I wore previously. The bloody Oreo Monster attacked me and I failed miserable on my Going Sugarless diet routine, so I need to go back on my routine. I'm feeling so discouraged now, and the only things that really fit are an old pair of fat jeans, sweatpants, and pyjamas. Blah. I know I"m losing some weight, but I'm losing it too slowly. Please wish me luck!!!!!!!!

Your idea appears to be interesting. As you rightly say losing weight is slowly and not fast. On the contrary gaining weight takes place quickly. Wish you good luck in your efforts to see that you fit into old set of clothes. Hope you will be busy all through the day - take up walking exercises and you will achieve what you want.

Doncha worry, I'm walking my tail off, and biking, and walking to the store with heavy backpacks on my back, that sort of thing, it's like I"m trying to make up for my "shenanegins" with those oreo cookies that were on sale!

The only way to lose weight is to lose it slowly. If you want it fast, the amount of anxiety will make you forget your diet. If you go down one size, give yourself a gift of a new thing to wear. Pamper yourself. Check on the Mediterranean diet. It´s backed up by the Mayo Clinic. It helped me. You slim down slowly, but it stays. And you can buy something to wear as a medal for your efforts.

That's true. Trying to lose weight too quickly can be stressful. You don't want to add too much pressure to you body to worsen health conditions. But if you have extra time and don't have anything to do, you can speed up your weight-loss process. I heard about the Mediterranean diet and its effectiveness. I had a friend who tried it out and lost some weight pretty quickly. That's always a good option. And yes, don't be too worried about your weight. Be happy with who you are!

You can always get a new used but beautiful garment just to have something different. It won´t be expensive but it will be new to you.

LOL I could...but I got some useful stuff for making knitting garments and to introduce my kids the art of knitting instead. Ah well I might treat myself next month, one never knows :-)

I can't get attacked by the Oreo monster. They only sell the small 4x4 packs here. They cost so much, I only bought them once. Of course there is the Pringles monster to contend with. I try not to buy them to often. Dieting is hard. I'm a size 42 European and want to be a size 38.

I do too. I love milk chocolate. I don't know what is better sweet or salty starches. Maybe chocolate covered pretzels. yummm. combines the best of both.

Mmm...pringles are yummy as well, but I never was much of a chip-type person. I always had a sweet tooth. Best wishes in your own weight loss endeavour!

That's actually a pretty good idea! Usually when people want to lose weight, their motivation is just to lose weight, and it doesn't really work and they end up failing their diet. Trying to fit into your old clothes is a good idea...I'll force my mom to go that route :D When I was trying to lose weight, I started by going on a 20 minute walk around the neighborhood every night after dinner to burn off those calories. Every week or so, I'd add a few more minutes and I would slowly force myself to start jogging. I lost 40 pounds in 2 months! I was so happy, and couldn't believe it happened so quickly. So maybe you could try that, or something similar to that? Good luck on your dieting! You can do it!

10 miles - hmm, that's 24 km, I think, but that's reallllllllllly far from town. if you were in good shape, that would be a good bike ride, though.

Wow, awesome, good for you! I know myself I have a walking companion (Bertha the Brick) and she's toned up my muscles big time - my legs are harder, and my shoulders and upper arms are more muscular. I don't really walk for the sake of walking, I walk to and from my errand places, which is a lot, actually.

Wish my errand places were close enough to walk to, but the post office is about ten miles round trip, and I usually have to carry a lot of packages. I always like to feel I'm doing something useful instead of just exercising for it's own sake. Maybe I will pull some weeds tonight.

Good luck with the weight loss and you can join me in the quest to shred those darned extra pounds!!! I had put LOADS of weight on over the last 2 years due to health and family problems and had reached a disgusting 19 stone 8 pounds (274 pounds) so I started at Weight Watchers in January and have so far lost 77 pounds and feel SO much better for it. I still have about 20 more pounds to lose but I am confident that I will do it for Christmas! I am in the fortunate (but expensive) position of having to buy a complete new wardrobe!

Hi! Lol--sounds a bit like me as I too, am trying to shed a few and not having much luck. Ok...have you looked around and have seen what the retailers are bringing out for the new fall season? Does anything interest you and if it does, can you really use it; how many times a year? If you are not 100% certain of what may look good on you, perhaps take a friend who is good at this sort of thing and make a day out of it or even just a couple hours. Be prepared to go to a few stores and for some criticism. Are you good at sewing? Take a sweater or nice shirt and perhaps add a little embellishment. As for the diet, I hear you on that one as well; I like to bake. You may have to find some alternatives when you feel a craving coming on. Try to watch the sugars and the calories...especially as we go into the holidays. It does take some will power and there will be a lot of temptations out there but you have to give yourself a limit. Look online, see what recipes will fit your 'dietary budget', and try a few. When I was pregnant last year, I became more aware of sugars and was relieved that there are more choices than there were some 20 years ago when we had only 2 perhaps 3 and that was it. I too, had a sugar scare and changed the ice cream from whatever brand to Edys and for me that helped. I'm not saying gorge on it but just be aware of what is out there. Do you excersize? What is your preferment? I like to walk and sometimes I walk at home. Try an excersize channel that works for you and go from there. Try a video from the library. Basically, don't give up! There will be some trial and error but keep in mind that you will find something that you like and works! Hang in there!

I don't buy new clothes, but sometimes I can get really nice clothes at Frenchy's or the Sally Ann. I have lots of lovely clothes that fit me 2 years ago and I'm trying to fit back into them. As for exercise I do a lot of walking to get to where I need to go. I also have "Bertha the Brick" to help me with muscle toning. I also do a little Pilates once in a while, a 20-minute video I downloaded from Youtube.

I wish I could point my finger at one diet monster, but I cannot. Everything just tastes good and my hubby likes to see me eat. I am barely losing weight and size, but I find I have more energy. I have worked at fitness pretty solidly since June. I want to bake, but know that it would be my undoing, as i love all kinds of home made goodies.

I find I want cheeses and sauces and savory things, but they can pile on the pounds as well. I need to balance what I want to do and what I do with getting enough sleep as well. That helps with energy and weight loss.

Wow, I think it's aweesome that you're having more energy. I know my crafting does keep me out of the kitchen, but my family basically "boots" me back into the kitchen due to their ferocious appetite for sweets :-p

Yup! Getting enough sleep is as hard as finding time to exercise. Maybe I should quit sitting at this computer and go for a walk.

I know that feeling well and even though it is difficult, annoying and frustrating, not buying new clothes is a good idea. The problem is that being uncomfortable in the clothes I wore actually made me less careful with my eating - since I already look bad who cares if I eat some more - so I bought just 1 pair of trousers with an elastic in them (I disliked them but they served their purpose), this with shirts and t-shirts allowed for some variety and believe it or not it helped and the weight started coming off until now I can use at least most of my clothes. There is one thing that helped out a bit too, I know it is weird but the Special K diet, eating it twice a day like for breakfast and lunch with milk or yoghurt and some fruit then a normal dinner helped initially. Do not get discouraged with the slow weight loss this is good and healthy, as long as there are no underlining medical conditions it should work out fine. Good luck.

I know this is difficult and I don't always follow my own advice, but having things like carrot sticks, fruit or granola bars help, preparing things that are low in calories beforehand helps. There are some home made granola bars that are time consuming but tasty, and it is easy to control what goes into them, http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/homemade-granola-bars-recipe/index.html and http://www.joyfulabode.com/2008/04/11/homemade-granola-bar-recipe-no-high-fructose-corn-syrup-in-these-bars/ These are just a basic idea, you can change the dried fruits and nuts used(certain dried fruits and nuts are quite expensive here so I change them for things that are cheaper but still tasty).

Good luck in your journey of losing weight! I, too, am losing weight at the moment, so I completely understand just how hard it can be to get through the day at times. I have managed to lose almost five stones since this time last year, and that it certainly the most amount of weight that I have ever been able to lose in that amount of time before. I think that you have the motivation that you need, you just need the belief in yourself that you are able to succeed. If you believe, you will be okay. I can promise you that.

Wow, 5 stone is impressive! I wish I can believe in myself, though, probably self-esteem issues. I'd be lucky if I can lose 2st by Christmastime, but even then I'll be one happy chick and even be able to wear some of my old jeans.

Not buying a new wardrobe is an excellent idea. Doing so only delays one thoughts of loosing weight as they will feel comfortable in the new fitting clothes. It really sounds like you want to loose weight for you and not because anyone says you need to, so I feel this alone will definitely continue to motivate you in loosing weight. I am wishing you all the best and luck in the world and know that with your determination you will make it happen.

I don't even have the money to buy a new wardrobe, plus I got some really decent clothes that people passed on to me, and they do make Hubby notice me in a good way when I wore them 2 years ago.

Hang in there, I know losing weight is difficult. Trust me I have been struggling myself, but I am happy to report I have actually lost almost 100 lbs. Trust me it wasn't easy it takes a lot of dedication and motivation. I know its difficult becasue I still get those attacks for sweets all the time. One thing I have noticed that if you eliminate carbs and substitute them with veggies and fruits that helps dramatically. Try excercising at least walking for 30 to 45 minutes a day, you don't even have to jog or run walking helps circulate that's what I have been doing in a bit of spinning as well, but that is just once or twice a week. Most importantly avoid what we normally tend to crave the sweets, try to spoil yourself once a week, or maybe after dinner eat 1 cookie to satisfy that sweet tooth. Hang in there, you'll do it. For me I sometimes buy smaller size close to motivate myself, and it has been successful for that last few months, but if it doesn't work for you than don't bother, pick something that motivates you. I wish you the best of luck!!!

I also need to lose about 40 pounds to get to my optimal weight. I have to admit I'm not motivated enought to try hard, but I'd better, or I won't have anything left to wear. I've got to fit back into my older clothes because I can't find any clothes I want to buy. I went to J.C. Penny with a $10 off a $10 purchase coupon Tuesday hoping to by a pair of shoes I've worn out. Couldn't find a pair that fit, so I went to the clothing department and couldn't find one thing I wanted to get -- even almost free. I should have gotten something from linens, but all I wanted were fitted sheets and you had to buy a whole set to get them. So I walked out without buying a single thing. I think if I could resist the cookie and candy monster, and start a walking routine again, I could start getting back in my clothes. I really miss my walking partner because I could walk and socialize at the same time and I looked forward to it. Walking by myself is harder to motivate myself to do.

I'm really blessed that I can walk and bike and socialise with my husband because we both love walking and biking, so it's easier to get motivated that way. I hate doing exercise for the sake of exercising by myself.

Small clothes are a motivation to losing the excesses, I heard. In my case, that smaller sized blouse and skirt has been hanging in my closet for years!!! I can't seem to focus on losing weight. It's frustrating. I'm hot on it one minute, and then downing a whole bag of chips the next. But, like in everything, we fall today, we rise again and try tomorrow. So, I hope that you get back on track tomorrow, and start again.

Bloody Oreo Monster! - Nothing but a bag of addictive crap!!
Thanks :-p LOL I'm just mad and frustrated. The Oreo Monster is this sucker right here (see below image) they're so addictive, and there was a bunch of sales on end of August and early September and I bought bag after bag of Oreos. I've stopped and gotten back on track about 2 weeks ago, thank heavens.
