Hi All!
In the era of mobile phones when someone calls us we can get to know who the caller is. If we happened to miss the call, we can see his/her number and name, if the number is already saved in our mobile handset. Many a times we miss to take a call due to one reason or the other. Many of us make a return call to the caller so that conversation could take place and one could get to know what made the caller ring up. Some of us return the call, however, some of us do not return the call assuming that the it was the other party who called us, therefore, if need be s/he will call us again. Is it right to expect the caller to call again or should we revert to him/her without waiting for his next call? I would normally revert back, if I could not take the call at the first instance. It happens sometimes that back to back calls are received and one can not attend to all the calls simultaneously, in that case too, I revert back to caller one by one. However, if the number is unknown (not saved in my mobile) I do not call on the unknown number(s). What do you do in such cases? Do you return the caller or wait for the caller to call again?

Hi deepak,
It depends on the person who calls and situation around me too. I mean if I am in office and busy with work then I can’t call back. Some of my friends do give miss calls so that I can call them back from office (local call). I will call them if I am free in office. Some may have the habit of giving miss calls when they remember me, I mean, for them, I don’t want to call back. So it wholly depends on the situation and person. If I felt it is necessary to call back the person then definitely I do it.

Hi Sree!
Your friends are 'smarter', as they save their money by giving you a missed call and in turn expecting you to call back from 'office' phone.. OH I see, there are is one more category of your friends, who give you a 'missed call', just to remind you that they are 'remembering' you.. Thanks for joining and sharing.

My 'good' mood depends on many things... a task done well in the office, a friend's happy news, some bonus I got, ..
Yes chichsdigscars, a mood holds an important role in my life. And often a mood saved me from a disaster I was about to make...

I must admit that I am really bad at taking or returning calls. My friends used to complain a lot previously but now they know that I have reasons. However, my friends, family have been consistently good towards me. Many times, I miss to call back even to the known number and may times I ring back to unknown numbers when I get many calls from the same number. That suggests something urgent. On Sundays, I make sure call my near ones though. Just to let go my guilt conscience.
And, deepak, you are really good in returning and making calls. I really appreciate the way you have tied the loose knots over the years. Thanks for everything.

Hello mimpi!
It has been ages when you last responded to any of my discussions. Thanks for sparing time to join us. I understand that your job keeps you awfully busy and you just do not get chance to revert to the caller.. It is nice on your part that you at least call your relatives on Sunday to make up for the loss.
Thanks again for your kind words about me.

I will call the number back and ask why he/she called me, I think that is the correct thing to do, however many people wait for the person to call back again.
At the first place they did'nt answer the call when we called them.
Then they wait for us to call again, I think that is very rude and they are trying to tell us that they dont care if we call or dont call we dont have anything important to say to us.
But I will revert back even if it is an unknown number

Hi KK!
It shows that you are very courteous and you behave nicely with others. I understand this trait of yours would be appreciated by your close friends/relatives. You are right, when someone calls us up and we are unable, it is in the fitness of things that we should revert to him/her. Expecting a second from him/her could be a bit severe. Thanks for sharing. Nice to meet you.

Hi Kkanaka!
You are right that if you called your sister thrice, courtesy demands that she should return the call on the first available opportunity, however, she did not bother and it hurts you. You see these kind of small gestures do affect our relations in our life.

Actually I was able to respond to this discussion so passionately because recently I tried to call my sister, and you know what I called her thrice, she didnt respond and she didnt bother to return my calls also, so I was really pissed off with her.
Yesterday I talked to my mom and she suggested if she might ask my sister to call back, I told her not to bother if she wants to talk she will call herself.
After a while I received a call from my sister.

when i missed a call from someone in the same network, i return the call.
when it's from another network, i will try to send him/her a message to know why he/she made the call and wait for him/her to send a reply message or call again.
if it's from another country, for sure i will only wait for him/her to call again.

It depends on who the person calling is. Before when i had a missed call from my boss, I would usually call back because definitely it's something important. If it's from my husband, i would just send a message and ask why he called. It's from my Uncle, I also send a message that i'm now available to answer his call. If it's from an unidentified person, i don't bother at all. That person can try to call again if he or she wants. It could just be a promo and not that important.
If from friends, i don't bother to call back too because for sure they just want to ask me if i'm available to party with them. Now if it's really an important call, i think that person should send a message right after the unanswered call. I usually do.

Hi Toni!
It is but obvious that when the call is from our Boss, we should get back to him, at the earliest.
Sending a text message immediately after an unanswered call is a good idea. It helps the other party to understand why s/he was called. I understand that sending text messages is cheaper at your place, rather than making a call, therefore, you make full use of it..
Many thanks for sharing.

I think I have a good habit in this aspect. If I am outside, sometimes I will miss the call since it is noisy outside. However, I will often check whether there is a call for me. If I have a missed call and I know this person, be sure I will call back and make an apology. If it is an unknown call, then probably I will not make a call since it is likely a scam call.
I love China

I usually call the person back out of curiosity of why they were calling. Also, sometimes they forget to call you back again or think you did not want to speak to you. I just think it is good manners to call them back to check what they were calling you for.

I fully agree with you zuki that courtesy demands that if we missed to take a call, we should call back the caller. If it is a wrong number, we will waste few bucks on the call, however, if it is a known person then our return call could prove fruitful.
Nice to meet you.

Hellooo Dpk,
in such situation, i will do the same thing like you. i am so curious who was called me. but that would happen only if i still have some pulse/money in my mobile cause most of the time the pulse is only left $0
and i can't do that too if the caller hide his/her number

Hi ifa!
OH I see, you revert to the caller only when you have enough balance to call in your mobile phone? In this scenario, the caller needs to call you again to get in touch with you because s/he can not guess that you don't have sufficient balance.

The cuckoo is looking awesome and it is wonderful that such birds turn out to be your guests.

Usually when i missed a call, i would send a message to the caller. Only then, would the caller call back again.
But as to a strange number, i would usually ask first who he may be. From there, he can call and take it , if he is someone i really know.

Hi simp!
What makes you send a message to the caller?, there is a possibility that s/he may not read the text immediately and may not call you. Do not you think that it would be better to give a return call (specially, when it is a known or saved number)?

I normally return calls, when I miss a call, which unfortunately occurs often, I return the calls of course, that to me is common courtesy. I might not return the call right away, but at least I try to acknowledge them by returning the call before the end of the day. There have been in occassions in which I don't recognize the number and I have been hesitant in returning the call if they don't leave a message. But luckily not to many people call me, only family and a few friends, so my phone doesn't ring that often.

It depends on who's calling. If it is a family member, then I will immediately call back. If it is from friend, I'll just wait for the friend to call back again cause he/she is the one who wants to talk to me.

you see my observation was correct because you yourself are admitting that your family members come first and you do not hesitate to call them back. However, you expect your friends to call back again, it clearly shows that you discriminate between your family members and friends. (there is nothing wrong in it, it is your choice )
Another point of discrimination is you do not call not-so-close friends, but you would revert to only 'close' friends?
@Jlyn10 (11965)

Not discriminating anyone here. Of course my family members come first. Anyway, my friends would usually call me back if they want something or some information about something, which is usually the case. But sometimes I do call them back as well if they are my close friends.

emm.. it depends what mood i am in. if its someone i'm annoyed with, or fighting with and they have pissed me off and i maybe don't want to speak to them because they are phoning to continue the argument, i wont phone back.
if it's an unknown number, then i can't call it back, because there is no number to physically call.
if its a number i don't know, but there is a number there, i will call it back to see who it is.
and then the rest of the time i will always call back :)

Hi chicksdigscars!
It is right on your part not to call back to those, who annoy you unnecessarily. Are you sensitive by nature?
There is no use calling unknown number because you never know whether it was a genuine call or a wrong number.

It is also true that there remain a possibility that unknown number could be of our relative/friend and there is no harm in cross checking this fact.

well i call back a number i don't know.. just to make sure it wasn't a friend or family member calling off a friends mobile. or to check it wasn't a place of employment or something about my rent.
i am sensitive by nature and if someone is annoying me or causing me hassle i can take it very personally, so i find it easier just to ignore them and wait for them, or myself to calm down!

Hullo Deepak! If it is a known person whose number has been saved in my contacts, then I will definitely call again. If not I would leave it. I have even saved "Spam nuisance" in my mobile but this nuisance does not seem to leave me; it comes from different extensions and I have got fed up of even saving the numbers as "Spam"

I am very forgetful in calling people back. If I am free when I see the miss call then I may call the person back or else send him / an SMS. If it is my kids then I call back as soon as possible. My grand son has somehow learnt do dial my number through the speed dial so I end up getting missed calls from him at any odd time. Once he woke up at around 2 in the morning and I think after crying for some time my daughter did not wake up so he took the mobile and dialled my number. I got worried and immediately called my daughter back and she just denied calling me!!! It was then we realized that it was the little prankster giving me a miss call!!! So now I have to think twice before calling back on a miss call number.

I have voice messenging and I figure if people are trying very hard to reach me they will leave a message. If there isn't a message left they must not want me very bad and will call back if they need me. I don't usually call people back unless they have left a message for me to do so.

We normally don't use voice mail service here as it is chargeable and it is economical to call back the caller instead of using voice mail service.

I usually don't call back unless it is a call that I was expecting. If it is an unknown number I really don't call it back. If the caller leaves a message requesting that I call them back...then I will. If not, I usually figure it was not important. Now if my children aren't at home...I will answer most every call..lol...one of my daughters has been driving for almost a year now so I am still worried about her..lol.

Hi Jen!
Not calling unknown numbers is alright because you never know the authenticity of the caller. Do you have voice mail facility in your mobile? We normally do not use voice mail facility here because it is chargeable and moreover, we (read I or my wife) do not receive such kind of important calls. Thanks for sharing.

There may be some number on your mobile, which are not completely visible or hidden. In some networks even in land line number, there is a facility (after paying some fee) that you could hide your number.
It is also possible that tele marketing companies may use some weird looking numbers.
PS - Have sent you a request for add, did you check?

some number though i they are visible ,they when called say that they are not existing,i dont understand why that happens,Some call comes form some number in odd timing, the number cant be said whether it is a mobile ten digit number or some landline with 6 digits.Dont know whether it is a tele marketing call or some one whom i really aware of.i feel we should have some site, which can display what that number is,whether it is a landline, some mobile or some call from abroad.
