I just love how a good discussion goes off at a tangent!

I don't know about you but my favourite discussions on MyLot are the ones that lead to many responses from both the discussion starter and those responding; especially when the discussion goes off on a tangent and opens up a whole new load of questions, responses and comments. I think that this is one of the things about MyLot which makes it so interesting. An example is a discussion I stated about my baby granddaughter growing up so quickly, that discussion still goes on - this time discussing the differences in the development of boys and girls Making it so much more interesting. Have you ever started a discussion about one subject that has opened up a new topic through the responses?

helo.. yes, through the very few topics of discussions I started, i did get something new to learn and think about a new topic of discussion. But as of now I have not started in that way as the same topic or subject we find that someone else have created.

It never ceases to amaze much just how much information I do pick up on here! I have found out so much about different people's countries and cultures that I doubt I would have found out any other way!

That's very true. Many a times I too have mentioned about our culture or a particular food or our tradition.

I find all this information fascinating and I think that it can only help with our relationships with dofferent people and cultures.

Not so much the ones I have started, but I seem to participate in a lot of them that just keep branching out. I think that is what a real discussion would be like if we were sitting around a table chatting. It is so good to see you back here.

You are so right; there are so many 'discussions' on here that are nothing like a discussion, simply a list of comments. We want to see different people's opinions and thoughts and a little bit of interaction - even if at times it can be somewhat heated!!

Thanks for the welcome back by the way; I have been very busy and not on here that much, I have kept my beady eye on you all though from time to time!!

hi oldchem have not seen you for awhile. I have had some of my own take off like that and blossom outward with other things but still sort of related and have a lot of comments on my comments and it really becomes fun then as it sort of grows and all are taking part in it. so I do know what you mean.

Hi Hatley, I have had lots of family commitments and not able to get on here as much as I would like, good to be back! I look forward to joining in some good discussions with you, you like many of the 'older' members on here are guaranteed to provide us with good and interesting discussions. Hope you're keeping well!

i cannot remember which one or two of the discussions i started that opened up a new topic. but i guess this is normal to mylot. that's because we came from different places, different races, different cultures. so we have different ideas and different understanding.

We certainly do and for me it has made me a lot more understanding about other peoples beliefs and customs, and also made me realise how lucky I am compared to so many other people.

Hi oldchem, To have such a discussion would depend largely on the starter. If the starter is very responsive, surely many people would love to join in his/her discussions. Sometimes we can identify those who wrote things that are really interesting and valuable. Besides providing information to those who read it, it will also create a lot of interests and interactions among the responders.

I think you have hit the nail on the head.A good discussion needs good input from all parties, especially the original poster. I see so many discussions that start and seem to have real potentially good topic but without their input after other peopels responses the discussion just falls flat.

The original poster must be prepared to continue with his/her discussion and not leave it as it is. A discussion that goes back and forth is surely more interesting then one which is just one-sided.

I seem to have gravitated to a bunch of MyLot "friends" for whom this sort of interaction is exactly why we're here. Mind you, sometimes these sidetracks can get a little heated lol. Lash

Oh yes, I have been involved in MANY 'heated' discussions - and aren't they just the most interesting ones!! It would be a very sad and boring existence if we were all of the same opinion!
