Telephone boxes are slowly dissappearing around England due to everyone having a mobile phone. I read somewhere that many houses don't have a landline phone now and just rely on there mobile, just use the phoneline to get internet .
We still have our laneline phone and find it very useful and sometimes it is more realible than an mobile.
Do you still have the landline phone in your house even though everyone also has a mobile phone?

I don't like phones. At all. I'm mildly phobic of them, in fact (strange as that may seem). We don't have a land line these days - well, that's not true... we got one with the broadband package but there's no phone plugged in, so it's the same thing. We don't even use mobiles much - just PAYG models with emergency money on them, in case of trouble. I do virtually everything online or by email.

@arealkool: I don't use Skype or any kind of VOIP because it's the same as a phone. All my communications - barring the absolute minimum - are written. I just don't like talking to people, which is where my (mild) phobia of phones comes from.
@telmesh: I was on call 24/7 for over seven years in a previous job, which is one reason I prefer to live without a phone as much as possible. Being called at 00:05 on 1st January because there's a problem with the system or at 3am because someone on the other side of the world can't log in is not fun. It paid well, though.

Yes, I still have a landline phone, and we still use it because we need emergency services in case anything happens to anyone at my home. The Landline is for emergency services and for a few other things. My mother and I won't be getting rid of it any time soon.

There will always be a need for land lines because if there is ever a great emergency, and the cell phones are down, all you are going to have left are the land lines.

Yea we still have ours even though everyone has their own cell/mobile phone. My mom still talks to my aunt through land line phone and makes other calls like the doctors, bank, any calls that says like those "please stay on the line while your call is transfer, remember your call may be recorded or monitored."

We still have a landline phone as home. We use it for the fax machine that we do use from time to time and its good to have of course as well. Now family members also call the landline as well. All my family members accept two i believe have a landline and sometimes why wouldnt you have it, i live in Florida and when we get a hurricane the mobile phones dont always work the best and then we have to plug in a landline that is a wired landline not a cordless phone to be able to use the landline phone to talk to others so we have that as a just in case as well.

No we have not had a landline phone in years me and my husband and my son have cell phones. My family has no need for a landline phone because even when we had one it hardly ever rang or was hardly used.

I still have a landline phone and actually I prefer others to call my landline phone when I am at home. Since it will charge me if they call my mobile phone even if I just the one who pick up the phone. Besides, since I need an internet connection at home. So I need to have a landline at home so that I can have the internet service.

No, we got rid of our landline about five years ago. We've only been using our cellphones. We get internet through our cable company, so we really didn't need a landline anymore. It has saved us quite a bit of money just using our cellphones since we don't have to pay the landline bill anymore.

no not anymore, we let it be cut though its quite useful to us..i just cant stand the big monthly bills they put in our accounts for some long distance charges we haven't called...i have learned that someone can hacked your phone and use your account to make some international calls...i think that how it happened to us..now we're just using our mobiles and its your call if you want a load or not to make some message sending and calls...besides having a landline phone is extra expenses thats add up to your monthly bills..so who will care enough?

I do have a land line phone. I have a mobile too. One of my daughter's has a mobile but the other one has an Ipod touch that she can use for text. The land line is mainly for her and my b/f when his family and friends call. I have a very good no long distance thing on it. I also use it as an alternative way to reach me. I often come in and toss my cell to the side never to be seen again until the next day..lol..I'll hear my land line before it.

I have been working in this city since I graduated from college four years ago. I had to change different living places because of many reasons. The common point of all these apartments is no landline phone. I just contact with people through my mobile phone. But in my hometown, people usually contact their friends by landlines.

Yes, we still have Telephones in our house, and we even have two lines. i mean two different telephone company because we still find it reliable than mobile and it is much clearer (to hear) especially if it is an overseas call. And also the children here, school age children are not allowed to bring cellphones at school so they only use the school telephones when calling the house which is always in reach. the disadvantage of the cellphones is that the time you forgot to charge it then you will not be able to receive calls.

I did away with the landline several years ago when I realized that I never used it any more. I made sure friends and family had my cellphone number, then had the landline disconnected. I have cable internet so don't need a phone line for that. Not having one has saved around $30 a month for around 40 to 42 months, or $1200 to $1260 dollars so far.

We have a landline. I don't like mobiles and whilst I was eventually persuaded to buy one (£6.95 plus £10 top up every 6 months which I very rarely use) I much prefer the good old fashioned telephone. Admittedly it is cordless. My daughter has Blackberry. I've thought about buying an Apple and then we could make a pie!

Yes I do and somehow I would like to not have one anymore. I have a cellphone and I would be better off with just that. I will look inot it. Right now I have ATT/Yahoo for phone/internet and I can't have internet without a landline. I sure I could save on money if I didn't have a land line phone.

Hi Anne,
Earlier I had a landline phone connection but after facing many problems, I have left it. Now I Just use mobile phone. It doesn't mean that I don't like them. They look classic and cool to me. And it also give nostalgia of old times.

i have a landline, because of my broadband connection, and a mobile. i use both, mostly i make outgoing calls to other landlines by my landline, and i use the mobile to text, or sometimes when someone asks for my number but i don't really want to give it to them i give my mobile number, it depends. or when i am expecting someone to return but i'm going out i give my mobile number. i like having both, i like the flexibility.

Hi Anne yes we still have a land line but it operates on broadband similar to skype but the computer does not have to be on, as well as being cheap there are many other advantages. If you travel a lot you can take it and your number with you even abroad and it costs no more.
Our broadband is by cable, it is like having a cable phone but much cheaper. I too am based in the UK so it could be available to you.
