Well it's kind of like Greece being asked to sell it's islands. And yes, that has been asked! America is supposed to be 1000 times more in debt than Greece in terms of dollars - not GDP. I wonder how much Texas is actually worth.
I could envision it becoming a tax sanctuary for billionaires. There is a demand for off-shore banking and such, so why not a haven nearer to home?

We need to help people find hope for a future. There are so few jobs for people with little education (no high schjool diploma for instance) since manufacturing left most of the US.
We need to inest in jobs that can build new industries. I hope Obama does not give up on the ideas he started in building a alternative energy manufacturing base. Build up opportunities like these and people will have the income (and taxes) to help get us out of debt. We just need to have the political will to do this... here's hoping we find it.

I agree with you! The politicians like to blame the schools around here as to why poverty is getting higher in many communities. Well I agree that if there were more good paying entry level jobs in manufacturing again where you could graduate with a high school diploma and still earn a honest living that could support a family. But as you mentioned they moved everything out of this country so all that's left is service jobs that start at minimum wage. And a person can't support themselves on minimum wage nor a family.

We need a Constitutional Amendment that limits Spending to a 20% of the Gross National Product (GDP). The biggest problem facing this country is that people in government think that the answer to every problem is more money. We have a spending problem.

Fire all the politicians.
Make the new politicians understand you can't keep spending.
Stop giving money to other countries, especially those that promote terrorism.
Their are so many things that have caused America to be in debt. I don't think that there are a lot of simple decisions that can me made to change things. The above statements seem to me to be the best decisions to get started.

Not only lower their wages but their perks as well. I think I once saw they got some sort of allowance for a car lease. I dunno about you but if I made $165k+ a year I think I can sport for my own dang transportation to my job! Change the lease allowance to bus or subway passes *LOL*

The #1. thing to do is buy AMERICAN MADE products! Close trade deficits with Asia, as they saturate our markets with their products and take our jobs but yet we export next to nothing to them. Reduce government waste in part by not paying bills from contractors who price gouge the tax payers. Let real companies compete for the contracts not a lobbyiest or campaign contributors blind them in thier decisions.

We need honest, responsible people in office (like that will ever happen - as I am not sure there is such a thing as an honest politician), and we need to hold them responsible for their actions and make them actually listen to what the citizens want. They need to get the budget balanced and the economy back on track. Until they start listening and trying to actually use fiscally sound policies I just don't see how it can get any better. If we would actually fire the ones that are not doing their jobs and elect new people into office, then maybe they would get the idea.
