As an employee, would you rather be appreciated than simply take your paycheck?

It is a funny thing last weekend, my friends and I was hanging out at the restaurant. We all discuss about our jobs, and we all want to get better benefits and bigger paycheck. But sometimes, we feel like we have grudge against our bosses too, and we want some appreciation, or recognition of our values too. It is more than the money thing. If we got the "pat on the shoulder" gesture, we might also treat our customers with sincerity, and nice attitude right? That is the part of deal. Some encouragement along the way, we will be loyal, and work better. What do you think?

I would want appreciation but I would also have to have my paycheck to pay bills with.

Yes, I think receiving such gestures from your boss will also boost your energy to work. Sometimes it's not all about the money. It's a good feeling knowing that your boss actually value you as an employee. Sometimes it also adds this so called motivation to work harder because you know that you have a value in your organization. Have a great day ahead!

It's just as important to be appreciated as it is to take a paycheck. When I'm appreciated for the work I do, it makes me feel good, and it makes me want to stick with my place of employment, in that the job and place of employment are more enjoyable to work at. This is especially true if the employers treat their employees with the same kind of dignity and respect they in turn expect the employees to show them. This makes for a perfect balance, and greater productivity from the employees too.

Appreciation of your work are same as saying "Thank you" & "Good Job". It is very important for any employee to boost their drive to work perfectly. I also wanted to be appreciated for my hard work, I really put my sweat and blood in some job and errands, I do manual job too and it's really really hard.

I would first of all say we need both. If I had to choose I might take more money and as soon as I had saved up I would change jobs where they would appreciate me more.

hello there, today I was thinking about the same thing. My boss yelled at me in the morning and in the afternoon. I thought like "what am I doing here?" and asked myself "what is the future for me in this office.." the answer I could find is that there is a two path one of them leads to say yes and ignore whatever happens at work and get your paycheck. The second path is quit this job and find somewhere else with a good boss who appreciates your effort. The second path doesn't seem to be possible for me at the moment. So there is one choice unfortunately other than getting a paycheck.

Being an employee trying to earn a living and striving to be happy and contented with life, I think we need both; appreciation and paycheck. :-) Both are motivators to bring out the best in us. The former, enables us to see beyond things like stresses, pressures. It can also create a good working environment where one is given a value and worth. It motivates us to produce a quality output which has a positive impact to the company /institution where we belong. It's like having this: good working relationship=happy employees= Quality output= quality product=increase productivity = good paycheck. I can say, that when one is sowing goodness, you will also reap goodness. well appreciated is to good performance equals good paycheck. who can overlook the paycheck when it is your means to live a decent life.
