All Television channels are flooded with reality shows nowadays. I just get frustrated whenever I come across a reality show.
I think it's all rubbish and fake and mean ways to achieve ratings, which viewers view with so much interest as though something real is happening!

I watch a lot of reality TV shows because I am a psychology student and I like to be able to see how people act in certain situations and be able to analyse their behaviour. However, I think that the people who apply for reality shows are a little bit naive, as they truly believe that they are going to get fame from doing the shows even though they should know from people in the past that they will likely get a couple of interviews when they leave the house and then nothing more until they do something else in their career.

Well said. It's just a few days of fame they would get. And maybe a couple more invitations in some other reality shows. Not more than that.
As far as your psychology studies is concerned, I feel you could find a lot of such opportunities in real life where you could study how people react to certain situations. As you said, most of the reactions, emotions and behaviours in these shows are fake and not natural. Hence I don't feel it would help you in your study.
Thanks for the nice comment:)

Are you referring to the housemates in reality shows or in other real life settings? If it is reality shows, then I strongly feel that it doesn't make a good study, because the behaviours there are fake and unreal. Study made in a natural setting where people are confined to a place for long time would be more meaningful.

But how many of those talents make their mark once the show is over?
And what about the mean comments the judges make which may hurt the sentiments of the participants?
Moreover, it makes the viewers uncomfortable. All the people involved in any show on Telly should behave themselves and respect everyone involved.
This is my view though.

here in the Philippines the winners of the reality shows like pinoy big brother house and pinoys got talent and pinoy big brother academy have become very successful movie actors and actresses because part of their winnings is an acting contract with their host television company. most of the winners of reality shows here have become big and successful celebrities both on television and in movies.

In the United Kingdom there is a reality program called Coach Trip. The coach tour guide is called Brendan and the tourists travel on the coach together. One pair get voted for each night and if they get it they are given a yellow card. If they get two yellow cards it becomes a red card and they leave the trip. Sometimes a pair that have left are replaced with a different couple. At the moment on TV the tourists are in the Czech Republic.

I don't like reality shows and I don't like people that watch them either. They act as if everything they see on that show is 100% real, although it's obvious everything's fake. I bet this is what they do in their private life, too; they pretend everything is ok in their family, when in fact it's exactly the opposite.

I believe that there are some reality shows that are just not meant to be on TV. They just rely on people being curious, and wanting to see other people more miserable than them that's why they tune in to watch.
But once in a while, there would be shows which are inspiring. I think The Biggest Loser is one such show.

And also, these shows are having bad effects on teenagers. They start imitating those on reality shows and they are so desperate to watch those shows.
Yes, there is another comment about The Biggest Loser above and I think such good shows must be encouraged. There is hardly anything inspiring and motivating on TV these days.

I can't stand reality shows. They are just platforms for spoilt, egotistical, people who don't know how to behave like decent human beings!

Well said Mandolingirl. We can't find the best word to describe these useless shows. They are just the worst. It's the platform for uncivilised behaviour.
The worst effect of those programs are on the young minds. I've seen many kids imitating those guys on the shows and it is such a bad effect on the society as a whole because these kids will be the ones who make the future,

my favorite reality show is The Biggest Loser. everything they do here in this reality show is very inspiring to those who take their bodies and health for granted. a lot of people can empathize with the experiences of the contestants. its really exciting to know who will be victorious among them but in reality all of them have won the battle against obesity and an unhealthy lifestyle.

Wow, that sounds great! There is a very valid reason for you to like such a show and I would also love to watch shows like that.
Reality shows should have a concept like the one you mentioned above. That makes sense. There is something the participants learn and also the viewers can take the example of those participants and get motivated.

I guess it depends on your country. For me, Reality shows are the best. They make really good and interesting show. I love it more than tv series. I guess it's because Reality shows are very popular in my country that's why they really are doing their best to make it good and successful.

Right. But in my country also they are very popular. All channels are airing similar shows at the same time of the day to attract viewers and many of them are successful. It was just my thoughts that I put in here.
I just don't like them for various reasons. When something is in limits, it's fine. But when it starts getting onto our nerves it becomes difficult to digest such shows.
