I have a lot of things that I would like to accomplish but I really have a big problem with procrastinating those things. I have a lot of magazine and books that I wanted to read but whenever I reach home I always get tired and end up sleeping without flipping a page. I also wanted to start exercising regularly but I always manage to postpone it. What are your techniques or tips in combating procrastination?

If there is something I don't want to do but need to, I write each thing on a piece of paper and put it in a jar. Every day that the jar has something in it I have to choose one, at least. That makes me get those things done.
Recently I did not want to open my mail because I had no money to pay bills. I made myself do it, though, because the situation was beyond my control and ignoring it would just make it worse. Now that I have money, I know what needs to be taken care of and I'm that much more ahead of the chore than I would have been had I not opened the mail.

Hi ya Andyvil
I too am a great procrastinator and if there was an exam in it I would get an A+ hahhaaha I think that when I procrastinate it is because I am tired or am just feeling lazy which is down to not getting enough sleep or not eating the right foods that would normally pep me up so I would suggest you get plenty of sleep and eat engergising foods.

I feel that you just have to get on with it and not worry about the consequences. I would go for a walk firs. I do find sitting down makes you more tired. Maybe limit yourself to reading one article at a time.

Hi Andyvil,Most of us have this problem. It is only a few of those lucky ones who have been trained from childhood to do things on time and never to put off things , are able to keep to schedule.I guess once you actually start doing whatever you have planned to do, it becomes a routine and then it is easy to make time for it.Making a list or a time table of your days activities and hanging it at a prominent place also helps..

I follow a set pattern to get over procrastination.I get up finish exercising, breakfast then i read the papers and have a bath. After that I am off to work. When i return I am on the net. After that i do read magazines. If i find a book useful then i find time sometime late in the night or early in the morning.I feel you should compulsorily follow a set schedule to avoid procrastination without putting things off.

I'm just like you too! I tend to procrastinate and there's a task I need to do but I just don't want to do it because it's so boring! Now reading books is probably the last thing I'll do. But if I know I really need to study or read then I have to do it. Try to think of something interesting while you're doing it like when I need to study I always have the radio on to entertain me while I study. Once I'm into it, I actually enjoyed studying! The same as exercise, I have the radio on and I listen to my favorite radio station while I jog. It really helps. If you want, have an exercise program on and watch it while you exercise. Sometimes adding extra things may get rid of your procrastination and after completing what you need to do, you get really relaxed after all that weight has been off your shoulders.

I used to procrastinate a lot, but you just have to get into your head that the sooner you do something, the sooner it's done, and then you won't have to do it again. There's nothing worse than knowing that you have to do something and have that hanging over you for the entire day until you've done it, so I tend just to get things done and then I know that I can relax with whatever amount of the day that I have left. You will feel much better about things if you just get to work and get things done straight away rather than wasting precious time.
