I'm going to have to say yes. There is so many problems with the economy that its even affecting the NBA now. I don't think there is anyway the owners and players reach a deal.

I think the business model of the NBA doesn't work anymore. A lot of the franchises are not earning money while they cater to the (egos and) high salaries of their 'star players'. Something has to give. Or else, this season is entirely lost. Hockey and Football figured it out, it's amazing how they can't make a deal.

they get paid so much you would think they would agree on a deal. however, i think 5 teams have been losing money at least over the past few years. this is probably what is slowing down any type of agreement.

I don't think it's just five teams. I think most non big market teams have been losing money for a long time.

Unfortunately it's looking more and more likely that there won't be an NBA season this year. After what I thought was one of the more interesting seasons in a long time, I figured that they would want to keep that momentum going and do everything they could to avoid a work stoppage. Instead it seems like both sides aren't willing or able to find any common ground in their negotiations. And with both sides as stubborn as they are I don't see that changing any time soon. The big difference that I see between the NFL labor negotiations and the NBA labor negotiations is that the NBA players have a lot of options if there isn't a season. A lot of players have already signed contracts with teams in leagues in China and Europe and elsewhere. The NFL players didn't have that option which is why I think they ended up making a bunch of concessions in the end. They needed the NFL a lot more than NBA players need the NBA. So I won't be surprised at all if the entire 2011-2012 NBA season is cancelled.

So far the NBA players and owners are eve close to an agreement. I doubt they will come to one! If this really happens I could care less! I can live without the NBA! It used to be fun to watch but not anymore! I am so sick of players like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James! So many players don't deserve the money they make and I am happy they aren't getting paid right now! I am sick of the Lakers being so dominent and seeing the Milwaukee Bucks always being in a rebuiding mood because of that! The love and fun for the game has been destroyed! Thanks Kobe,LeBron,Mark Cuban and others for this! You are the main reason I am sick and tired of the NBA!

I really hope there is an NBA season. Without its going to be boring becasue going to the Miami Heat games are fun and seeing them play like they did last year would be great. I would like for the players and the NBA to come to an agreement in the middle of october but it isnt looking good at all and im getting worried there wont even be a season at all. I cant believe it has taken this long to come to an agreement and having canceled to many pre games already.

I don't agree with you elmiko.I know there is one good solution to the problem.every problem has its own solution.the problem for now is that both sides do not agree on a win-win solution. In fact, this is yet the 2nd lockout in the NBA history. if the first one was solved, then why can't this second one be? i am an avid NBA fan and 'Im sure the NBA management and it's players are also thinking of us as fans.

the economy is crappier now compared to the last lockout. fans are not buying as many tickets to see games because of this. this is affecting the owners wallets which is making it harder to reach a deal with the players. all and all its going to be harder to reach a deal this time around.

If I get it right, there is a standoff between the players and the NBA association. Is this understanding correct? What is the reason for this standoff. I agree it would be sad if NBA does not take place due to this. Cheers! Ram
