Forming a new habit

For October I have a new goal. After a little research I am willing to try this new approach toward my attitude. Here it is. Are you ready? The first thing I think each morning is that I am going to be happy today,( I picture myself being happy, big smile, even a laugh or two) Next thought is thank you, ( thank every one and every thing I can picture). You are saying is that all there is? Well it's easier to write this down then to practice it. I've tried a couple of trial runs and they were less then steller. But I have made a goal and I'm going to do it. Research has shown that if you do this you will be a happier, more well balanced person and your life will improve. Come along, we'll talk about this on the first of November. Blessings

Savipat, you had a great idea! I have been trying to keep happy (not so much as to laugh, I must say) since I found our I had cancer, thinking that a possitive attitude would help. It might. But maybe if I do it as a goal in itself, it will work better. Who knows? Nothing will be lost and I´ll enjoy my life more.

I'm very glad that you're forming this new habit, you will love the way your life goes! I learned this from a motivational speaker years ago during my divorce when my life was so negative. He said we choose our attitudes and thus choose the direction our life goes and it is so true. My life improved so much once I decided to choose a positive attitude of gratitude and cheer. I also end every day with thanks and take time to be thankful during the day. That also makes me happy and colors my day in brightness.

Nothing will change until our attitude towards it changes first. This is why, after some very dark times, that I made up my mind to make myself happy. It has taken me a long time to find what really makes me happy but I'm finding it now because I am no longer blocking my own happiness with negativity. I'm even thinking of moving town for the first time in 23 years because I have found the right place to live, at last.

I forgot to say that I express my gratitude and thanks at the end of every day, no matter what has happened. Everything in life is a lesson.

Hi savy, I highly encourage you to do this. Life is never without problems, and sadness and all those negative emotions so why dwell on them when we can choose to be happy. right? I also stumbled upon a particular religious book and likewise it teaches a person how to live life with happiness, blessedness and wholeness. It is a fun read. What I like best about it is that it taught me to pciture out God not as a punishing, angry, nagging, stern and strict God but someone who is a very loving father, someone who laughs, jumps, dances with you. So that when we ask for something from Him, we know that we will be given abundantly.

God/The Source or whatever you wish to call The Ultimate Compassionate Energy, created us to enjoy life. We are part of it so of course laugher and fun are on the agenda. It is our loving parent, and only wants the best for us. it doesn't want us to create a life full of doom and gloom!

That’s a great goal! Yeah, it’s really important to always have a positive outlook in life, and it starts with waking up in the morning being happy and grateful of what we have. I used to wake up every day looking at myself in the mirror and smiling. Nowadays I never get to do it because of a very busy life. I should remind myself to take at least 2-3 minutes each morning to look at myself in the mirror again, smile and look positive ahead

I am a Reiki Channel and I say this every day the moment I get up and also during the day: Just for today I will be in the attitude of gratitude Just for today I will not worry Just for today I will not get angry Just for today I will respect others Just for today I will be honest and believe me it sustains me day in and day out.

It works I've tried it. Went into work early with a good thought in my head. I would have a Tim Horton's coffee and a muffin with butter. Now since that is something that makes me happy, sitting at my desk while my computer logs having a coffee, I had a happy thought. Then all that was needed was to smile and say hello to the old guy who sits at the front desk. Found there was lots of people in the day that would smile back and most of all I could be happy about the most simple things. There would be a angry or negative person in my future that would conflict with my goal but then it would not last forever and it was always possible to get back on my new trend. Happy girl at desk number 12345. good luck with your new goal :-)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Hi savypat, I can always use a good habit, although I sometimes quit after a couple of days. Maybe knowing that someone else is doing it too might help, so you can count me in. I believe strongly in what the research says about this. Blessings.

I think it’s a fantastic idea because the willingness to be happy and gratitude are the major ingredients to a great life. It is a habit that needs to be integrated in our lives and it will take some time to get used to but that is no reason not to do it because feeling appreciation for the way life is right now is a stepping stone to more positive changes.

Sounds like a plan. I really do try to be positive everyday but I do run into those days when I could bite a nail in two. Yesterday was one of those days. Take care and good luck with your new goal.

I do started a good habit since 1 week. I am very happy about it. I thought to start my day by drinking 1 liter of water. Generally i wont drink water much but as we know that water is very important in ones body so i made a decision to drink more water as possible. I am taking a water bottle also with me when i go out of the house, and it is not good of taking out side water. Now i am so happy about it.

That does sound like a wonderful idea. I think that your new approach will enable you to have a much more positive outlook on life and I also think that it might be something that I might need to do myself. I know that I've been struggling a lot lately with my mental health and I think that trying to focus on happiness might be a wonderful thing that I could do that would keep me from having to take medications for it.

What a great idea for starting the day out right. It's something I can do before my eyes are even open. I usually end my days with counting my blessings, but this is a good reminder for starting the day with the right perspective and attitude. We should get out of bed singing."This is the day that the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. "
