General perception is that people who sit in the last benches are dumb fellows. I disapprove this statement. I was a class topper in my class but i always sit in the last bench. I dont listen to even half of the class but i get good marks. I just go to home and read the textbook. I don't think we get good marks if we listen to the class. So, there is no need think that people who sit in last benches are poor students. What do you say?

I usually sit in front so that my whole attention is given to the lecturer. But I sit on the last bench when I hate the lecturer or when I hate the subject or when I know the subject will be too boring for me that I will eventually fall asleep in the class.
And no, I don't think the people who sit in the last benches are dumb. Definitely not.

i think people who sit in the last bench is people who doesn't really want to paid attention to the teachers, like you and me , that's why when i'm in high school my teachers rotate the sitting every day so everyone got the taste how is it to sit in the first row of the class.

yes, if today you sit in the last row, then the next day you'll sit in the second to last row and so on... many student didn't like the first row, so the teacher just have to watch the first row everyday, because not many student like sitting in the first row then you can bet that it will continue to rotate everyday...

May be you are right. I think some guys don't need to listen to the class. They can manage their studies. But listening to class always makes the subject easy than studying by self. However wise you are and wherever you sit in the class it is good to listen to the class.

In the past the teachers in my country divided the students in two groups. The students who got good marks had to sit in the front of the classroom and the students who got bad marks had to sit in the back. The students weren't allowed to choose their own seats, teacher looked at the students' marks decided where they had to sit. If a student was sitting in the back of class it was a sign that he or she didn't get good marks, so at that time it was actually possible to find the good students and the poor students just by looking at the seats in the classrooms.
Today the students choose their own seats, and I don't think that the students in the back of the class are poor students. Some of them just like to sit in the back. At my own school many of my classmates who got great marks sat in the back and I don't think that there is any connection between marks and seats today.

Intellectual capacity has nothing to do with row number. Some students dont find some subjects interesting and may sit in the last rows. Some students may dont like the teacher. Overall it is the teachers duty to make the class interesting and get students engaged into the class.

I am a teacher and I know students' ways and tactics. Most of back bench sitters are those who want to play safe. They want not to be noticed by teachers as they do their things inside the classroom and be the first to get out when the bell rings. But I always call on those back sitter and I always stay at the back so my students most of the time would prefer to occupy the front seats!

No, not all students who sit on the last benches are dump but rather most of them (although not all) are those who are not really interested to listen. Maybe they are like you who believe they can learn on their own or they are those who have not much interest in listening because they are not really interested with their studies. As for me I always prefer to sit on the the row nearer to the teacher because I am always interested to listen and learn from the lectures. But aside from that I also do my own reading and learning at home. I think listening to the teacher is what a student should do not only to learn but to pay respect to the teachers. The teachers prepared the lesson and if only for their effort we should listen to them. I also believe listening to the teacher will help students to learn more.

What about the teachers who couldn't teach well? Even though they prepare well and come to class, it is useless if the student cannot grasp it. So , there is no point in listening to the class. I do agree listening to the teacher will help to grasp the subject easily.

I don't believe that too. I usually go near the door so that I could just disappear if I find that the lecture is something I have read and just go home and read next topic. It is nonsense going to class only to waste time on something they are teaching which you already know. I rather practice on my math so that I could do better on solving the problems.Math is harder and so I give more attention to it in the library

I disagree the statement. I sit in the last chair and have graduated with high honors in 6th and 9th grade. Recently I've had to sometimes sit on the front due to my glasses but mostly I sit back since I dearly hate my highschool group....it's funner to be alone each day.
