I have to say an apology to the Salvation Army. I Know many would think what could I Have against such a good group. Well I really have issue with them making money off of clothes and Items donated to them. I still do not like this part, but that said I do thank them for the help they have given to us flood victims the last couple of weeks. $50 per person in their stores goes a long way and all of us have new wardrobes for the winter and out of the 80 or so items purchased (remember there are 6 of us) only maybe 4 where without original store tags and we didn't even use up all of the certificates given to us. It was too bad they where a one time use thing but that's fine we are not choosy and are thankful for all that has been done for us.

What is your issue with them using clothes and other items that are given them to make money to help others? I have been very thankful for SA in my community and St. Vincent's. I can see where you might have an issue with them if clothes and other items were given it was not understood what they were to be used for.

Our own church has a shop here as well. We do not charge for the items we have. It is all volunteer and I see using donations to make money as a little underhanded, maybe I should say that the money is put into the Church coffers but it is implied that it goes else where. It is like giving a present only to find out the person sold it on EBay, yes it was theirs to sell but still rude. As I said they do much good. Their volunteers go out and help elderly and other but the thing is they are volunteers, many using their own monies so where is the money made from selling donations go? I say this knowing those who have left this church for these very reasons. Unanswered question.

the money that the Salvation army raises by selling donated items goes into their churches which in turn do things for the community, missions, etc. my favourite thrift store is called 'bibles for missions' so the money raised by selling donated stuff goes exactly what the title says (its run by volunteers).

Their stores are one of their ways to raise money to help people, so I don't object to their doing it. I have found they might be just a bit fonder of their stuff than Goodwill....

Oh ok. That's good but I only mentioned the dislike because others have seen me say it before but as usual instead of seeing that I was thanking The Salvation Army everyone only saw the one little part.

I am glad to hear that the Salvation Army helped you out! I don't know why you have a problem with them selling the donations, that's what allows them to help you and others. Without the sales, then they wouldn't have had the $50 per person to donate to you. I have been pleased with the Salvation Army's prices, especially as my daughter was growing up and I could not afford the expensive clothes for a teenager, she quickly learned that she could leave the Salvation Army with a huge armload of clothes and I never complained about that!

Actually the money made in the stores goes to the Church that is why one is given a tax receipt. $50 in clothing is just giving away what they have been given not the money they make from it. I am grateful though for their help, but I give our old clothes to the woman's shelter who just gives it to those in need, just feels better to me.
