I used to work for a company when I was 16 years old and the manager had pulled me to the side one day and asked me what happened to a 100 dollars from my drawer. I said when the manager counted it..it wasn't short 100 dollars before I went home. Come to find out two managers was snorting coke and they were the ones who closed the store before midnight. At the time there was no camera's..so how can we trust anyone we work with..especially the managers?

You can try and trust people you work with but with caution. Always take care of yourself first. Make sure that what you are doing to appropriately accounted for, in your case it was different because it was the managers are the ones that count your money, which really sucks.
Always remember to look out for #1.

That is a terrible thing to happen to employees. To be accused of seomthing that our messed-up superiors are doing.
I don't know what your position is in the company or in your work but that's the importance of proper inventory and daily financial report. Every money must be endorsed to the proper personnel or person-in-charge with proof that you remitted that money. So that if anything happens after you have endorsed that money, nobody can accuse you of anything anymore.

I have no idea. Good thing they now have cameras, but then you had to rely on references and trust. I guess they found out who the thief was.

That is scarey. I could not work for a company where I couldn't trust everyone I worked with. I would also have to know that they would be procesecuted if it came down to it. I am there to work and I had better feel safe while doing it. Cameras keeps everybody honest. Too bad it has to be that way.
