How Much Do you Eat a Day?

I was calculating how much my family eats a day. I figured by the time you buy meat and whatever else you need on the side, that would be around $15-$25 a day. Of course it depends on what you're eating too but, figured if you were a busy person and was too tired to cook, wouldn't it be easier just to eat out?
I think it all comes out the same as long as you're not spending it on expensive gourmet food and things like that. I usually get chinese, pizza, pasta or things that can fill you up and have a little left over for later. What would an average family of five spend to eat out compared to cooking at home?

If we ate out rather than eating at home my food bill would be huge!! I am lucky to have been brought up by a mother who was expert at frugal living (having kept house during the war!) and I learned the importance of good housekeeping and thrift in the kitchen. I am also a trained Home Economist and taught catering. I have now been married for 40 years and after bringing up 5 children without a lot of money am quite and expert at making money and food spread well.
There are just three of us at home now but I can provide 3 good meals a day for between £5 and £8 whereas if we ate out it would cost us at least £20 a meal - usually a lot more!! Also I know that the food we are eating is fresh, healthy and nutritious.

I prefer to cook food in home it self. It is not good to eat outside food daily it may bring us to bad condition some day.I like to take a good nutrition food rather than a fat content food.I will take food in a regular intervals like little little amounts in 4hr or 3 hr gap. This make us to be fit and good for health.Mean while if you drink fruit juices or water that feels our stomach full.

I eat 2 times a day and those meals are lunch and dinner. We also go out and eat every once in a while when we see our mom having a busy day that she really didn't have time to cook dinner. Our dad suggest us to plan where to go out and eat whenever my mom has had a busy day.

I have not been able to figure out how much I eat in a week, let alone a day. Since it is just me, and my renter also does her own buying and cooking, I find it hard to estimate what I make for each day and whether it is worth it. I get tired of making varieties of pasta, of lasagna and having to buy mozerlla cheese and ricotta that will go bad if not used in a certain time. Even having chill gets boring, and all making stew as well. I have to have a whole lot of one to two pound containers if I just depend on freezable meals. With salads, even with the ready to us salad package,s they only last so long so once they are opened it has to be used by such a such a date.
I have found that putting together some lettuce or arigula leaves and buying a small package of frozen entrees is just as cheap.
I know when my husband was alive, we were able to spend $100-$120 on food a week, and that also included eating out at least three or four times a year. You can also add about $20-$50 a week if there are two more in the family.
I would get the frozen meals when they are on sale.

I try to eat healthy and watch the portions. The best thing is to eat 5 times a day, but smaller portions. I try to prepare meals beforehand when I'm going away or have to be at school or somewhere else for a longer duration like 4-5 or more hours. I think what I eat is about $10 a day, but of course prices are different in every country, I know the same amount of food would cost twice or more in the UK or US. I live in Hungary.

Oh and for me? There is no certain amount of how much i really eat cause i'm on special diet and my daily intake varies on my mood really and the availability of the food present. Kind of hard to visualize really. But i guess just average perhaps, actually i don't prefer eating outside much it's the best for me to bring all stuffs and do it at home which i feel more healthy and more nutritious.

Lately, we have been avoiding the eating out as much as possible. Normally when we go out to dinner (4 of us) we averagely spend between $30 to $50 per visit depending on the restaurant. We have tried to cut down going out to eat no more than twice a week, normally on either Friday evenings or Saturdays.
As far as groceries are concern, I normally spend on an average month about $400 a month, between the meats, poultry, fish and other essential, such as milk, yogurt, cheese, chip, bread, cereal etc. (you get the picture). It gets expensive especially with inflation continuing to rise and our wages continuing to shrink.
So lately, we've been eating and cooking more at home, rather than going out to dinner.

I usually spend around RMB5.00 for breakfast, my company offers staff the lunch(though it is not good). For dinner, it depends, from RMB5.00 to RMB20.00, as sometimes I do want to have a good dinner.
