i have read a book about the negative effects of being a meat eater and what i have read and learned from that book really helps me from my thorn of the flesh which i genetically inherited from my father gene sides.. the book explains why there arose many different kinds of deadly diseases in our time..it explains the cause of different kinds of cancer which is directly link to meat eating..on the other hand the book points out the good benefits of taking vegetable as our primary food..rather than of meat..as for me i just can't help myself to eat meat once in a while..but i see to it that vegetable is always part of my food and dishes..are you meat eater or trying to be vegetarian?

that is definitely true, but the sad thing is who's doing it..we just can't resist eating meat than vegetable..to say it frankly our control of what we will eat is laid upon us, the choice is ours and no one not even book could tell you what you will eat it depends upon the choice of individual ..if your health conscious then it's up to you which food you will prefer

Yes, it is. :)
And it depends on how well you discipline yourself and how much is available. Sometimes, we want what is best but sadly, they're just not here.
When I was studying away from my family, I use to eat on fast food chain where they don't offer any vegetables. So much preservatives consumption everyday but I hardly had any choice any that time because I can't cook and there are few who offer vegetable menus and I didn't liked them.
But I guess, if there's a will, there's a way. xD

i have never tried to be a vegetarian and i do not think i would be able to be one although i like meat i am very picky about it all that fatty squishy stuff in the meat makes me sick and feel like i am going to barf so i always try to pick all of that out but just seeing it there on my plate and wondering what if i missed some and didnt get all of it out makes me sick i think vegetarians are weak because mean is what gives our bodies protein and helps to keep us healthy

no my friend, vegetarian are not weak as you suppose, actually they are more stronger than what you think..there's these test of endurance made between meat eaters and those of the vegetarian and the study shows that meat eaters easily get tired and showed hardness in breathing while the vegetarian shows a remarkable stamina and had withstand the endurance test with promising result... actually vegetable particularly beans, beans sprouts, and other vegetable are rich in 9 out of 10 essential protein needed by the body and eating beans or a little piece of meat will do the wonder..

I have never consciously decided to not eat meat although much of my diet is made up of vegetables and I have easily gone without meat of any kind for about a week or so without thinking about it. I'm sure there are good and bad points about being a vegetarian, just as there are good and bad following any other diet. I can honestly say that whether I have eaten mostly meat or mostly vegetables, there have been no noticeable differences either positive or negative.
The point you make about diseases linked directly to meat eating is possibly just speculation or someone who wants everyone to stop eating meat. Saying that, there have been many things linked to causes of cancers, etc. included some fruits and vegetables. As far as I can work out, the only food which no-one has claimed to contain some kind of cancer-causing agent is ice-cream!
We should have vegetables as a larger part of our diet but there are certain nutrients which are much easier to absorb from some meats than from some vegetables. While it is perfectly possible to have a good vegetarian diet, I know many vegetarians who have to take supplements to stay healthy.

i know it's hard to be purely vegetarian and those that were not use to it will not in anyway continue to do so..for me i always prefer vegetable and fruits and if there's nothing but meat i would eat it anyway even just a little piece of it..but if ask would i prefer i'll stick to choose fruits and vegetable..because personally i have known the big difference in my health of having fruits and vegetable as a preferred food..

I am a meat eater but I admire those that have a vegetarian lifestyle. I love meat too much to give it up! My 6 year old became a vegetarian about 9 month ago. She is the only one in the house. We all thought she was joking but she is very serious about her decision. It is good because she is eating healthier.

I have been vegan ten plus years & a 100% raw fooder for the past couple of months. I can personally verify the points you have given from the book. These points only actually apply if you abstain from all animal products though, not just decrease your intake a bit. You will get very little benefit by not completely eliminating animal products from your diet, but still, we should each go at our own pace. Animal products also contain a lot of parasites, etc that make people want to keep eating meat & make them feel all sorts of things when they try to stop.
You make a good point about not only showing the negatives of continuing on an animal product based diet, but also about listing the vast number of positive aspects of a plant-based diet. We see too few of the positives these days, but people are more likely to sit up & take notice of the negatives than to be motivated by the positive outcomes.
I wish you every encouragement on your journey. Keep reading - there's literally tons of the stuff out there for you to go through

thanks for such encouraging words from you vegan..i like really like reading but my work makes me to set it aside once in a while actually i prefer not to drive but commute just to make time for reading. turning vegetarian is not that easy, few restaurant do offer meatfree vegetable dishes..but if you want to stay healthy you got to find a way not to starve otherwise the latter will make you worse than do you good..

There have been times where I thought about being a vegetarian but they didn't last long. I have found if I go a few days without beef I actually crave it. It could be that is the way I grew up, but meat and potatoes were very much a part of my childhood...beef, chicken, pork.
When I think of going vegetarian I worry about gettng all the complete proteins I need...I am sure it is possibe, but it seems to me eating meat, but not overdoing it, is the best way to go.
I don't know if I think meat is the cause of many of our illnesses especially cancer..I think maybe it could be more a result of the chemicals were are exposed to through the foods we eat and the air we breathe.

i admit and i,m not a hypocrite to say that i don't eat meat..but don't eat much meat try vegetable specially salads and fresh one..actually i eat meat but just a small piece that will complete my protein requirements..eating meat all the time will put you in the list of those who will have a cancer or the other someday specially if the meat you are eating is not clean enough and carries traces of antibiotics and growth hormones they inject to our poultry and cattle.

Good point about the hormones and antibiotics..I don't overeat meat but I do like beef. I don't eat it everyday, but as I said, if I go without it for a few days I really miss it...guess it's habit. I like other proteins too..eggs, fish, cheese, some beans ..

Hello Arnold. I am not a vegetarian, but I definitely prefer having vegetables. When I go to restaurants serving buffets , my plate would every time be more that half-full with different kinds of vegetables. I like the tastes, and yes, I believe in the health values of veggies.

Four months I ate beans, eggs and dairy..I still have meatless meals sometimes. We eat alot of legumes and cornbread. My favorite meatless meal is pinto beans in the crockpot with a big pan of cornbread, you can't beat it!

I have many friends vegetarians, most of them are girls. I don't know, I never really tried to be vegetarian, because since I was a kid, meat was so important when we ate and when it doesn't have a meat, it seems that something is missing.
If I had to be a vegetarian, it would be really difficult to me to live without any type of meat. I love sea food and red meat.

First of all , you all forgot that all the animals are animals just like a cute puppy that we all love and they got soul just like our pet at home. We actually pay murderers to keep kill animals when we buy meat for food...
Many of the questions I am about to write here are discussed by gary yourofsky at YouTube , you just have to type "gary yourofsky" and see the results.
What about all the suffering those poor animals have to go through untill they come to our dinner ?
Are we actually meat eaters in our nature ?
How come we don't have sharp teeth and sharp claws to kill ? How come I don't have my instinct to just hunt an animal when I see one ?
How come I can only eat the meat after it was cooked ?
The worst parts of the suffering can make me cry.
Still , I eat a lot less meat because I don't have other sources of B-12 , and don't forget that most of the vegetables are being sprayed with poison that is being accumulated in our body , build damage for the long run.
It looks like everyone actually has to grow his own vegetables with care to really enjoy the benefits , but what can we do if we are depend on the supermarket ?
To all the meat eaters , gary yourofsky can recomend you about foods that taste like meat and have the same texture of meat so you will like it.
This subject is need to be fixed from the root of the problem , all our society need to stop buy and eat meat so other healthy foods will be more available.

Right now I am a meat eater. I have tried to switch to being vegetarian but meat is just so common in my diet now that there is no way of trying to cut it out. Unless for religious reasons, but I don't have any of those. Meat might cause different types of cancer but it also is an important part of your diet in my opinion.

I too am a meat eater, but I have always known the negative sides of it. My mom is a nurse, so ever since I was a kid she has always been telling me to eat veggies.
I only practiced eating veggies when I got to my high school years, thats when I started having constipation. My mom explained that green leafy vegetables and fruits helps in my digestion, and she also said whenever I eat meat, try to chew it very well.
And now that I'm older, I am even more into veggies, I try to avoid red meat as much as possible. I try to settle for fish or chicken meat. They are much healthier, as far as I know.

Well I appreciate the fact that you are making it a point to eat veggies although you can't totally avoid meat. It would be better if you could totally avoid meat but if you really can't then better go for white meat if you really want a healthier you. I also do eat white meat occasionally but I am mostly into vegetable diet. I love the effect on me. It really makes me healthy. I only eat white meat when invited in parties where there are no veggies served.

I can't imagine myself being a vegetarian. I just LOVE meat. Although I know that vegetables are far more beneficial than meat. There's something about protein-packed meat that makes every meal smashing. I mean, how can you resist a steak that smells so good? Lol.

Many years ago, I was a vegetarian. I just had my second child; just got tired of eating meat, and more importantly I wanted to loose the baby weight. I came across a book with vegetarian recipes; I tried it. Keep in mind the rest of my family were all meat-loving and eat everything in sight type.
The book had vegetarian recipes; I followed it to the letter. I lost a lot of weight; felt great; certainly had enough fiber in my diet. But I was preparing and cooking and planning all my meals. At that point, I felt like my while life was based on food. I couldn't do it anymore. I gave up but I did modify quite a bit; ate fish and beans for protein for the next two years; went back to eating dairy products. I felt OK.
Until I ate my first piece of steak after two years and well the rest was history.
Today I am still eating based on a diet based on blood type diet with a combination of 15g of sugar per day along with 6 serving of good carbs per day. I feel great!
