Why is it that despite the amenities present today like the internet and tv, many people are still suffering from depression? Aren't there enough entertainment available at this modern age? Is depression severe? What are the things that the depressed person need to know in order to recover? How does one recover from depression without taking pills? Can someone give an explanation?

Issues with relationships, work, family can depress someone. people that die, heart-broken, or when people misses somebody or someone...lots of things that they can't change or think that they can't change... when the person is locked in the sadness and when the things only get worse get worse and the person gets depressed (don't get help or maybe has but can't take help) or when people don't get what they need

That is where you are mistaken. Depression has nothing to do with the lack of entertainment. Take for example I am depressed because of a girl. How will TV and internet fill the void left by a partner who used to be with you through all your ups and downs?

Hmmm.. indeed the girl bears more weight than any internet / tv extravaganza.. but why be a crying mess when she had hurt you so bad?

People get depressed probably by being too much in their room and basically being trapped inside there. There too much TV, internet, etc that keep some people do that, in other words, they can addicted to it. I would say to get rid of depression, we must go out and take walks, going out with friends and being busy. That way, the air can hit them and they keep their minds on something else.

people get depressed because they have an illness. part of their brain doesn't work right, and the chemicals that are produced are not in the right balance. this produces artificial feelings of extreme sadness.
depression can be very severe, where it will need to be managed with medication. or it can be mild and easily managed just by improving the diet and taking lots of exercise to boost and rebalance the brain chemicals.
I don't think that there should be ANY more stigma to taking medication for depression than in taking medication for something like Diabetes, which boils down to the same sort of condition. the body doesn't make the right chemicals.
just because the organ in question is the brain, it doesn't mean it's all in your head.
lack of entertainment does not cause depression.

Good day Cowboyofhell,
Indeed there are a lot of reasons why people get depressed. To drop a few reasons, there are financial and social. As we all know, as soon as we finished our college degree courses we are force to look and search for a job. At first, we will look for a job simply because we need to earn but the moment we start earning, we will look for a much high-paying job. And it will not just simply stop there, as our unending wants will still prevail. Another thing, is a social depression. As you have said, since amenities such as internet and tv is now present, there are some shows which was being aired on TV somehow leaving and giving a sad stories to its viewers. As a result, some negative ideas were being absorbed by the viewers. And then leads them to think situation in a negative side of life. Same thing on internet, as some negative news are being posted and flashed over the net. As an effect, those people who always browse newspaper using the net, easily absorbs the negative vibration that it brings.

Depression can come when you get ill and can no longer work. You were once a very vital person and now sitting at home makes you realize how much was taken away from you with illness. While there is TV,radio, internet, having human contact can be very important.
Depression can come with the way the economy is turning and people out of work for lengthy time. Makes them feel worthless even though the job loss was not their own.
Elderly people get very depressed when they are placed in a home and none of their family come and visit.
And I get depressed when I have a certain illness that keeps flairing up and I have had all the tests and the doctors can't find out what it is.
Medication you are put on can cause you to get depressed.
Knowing the signs for me I tend to go outside over by the bay and sit by the water
It relaxes me and I sit and cross stitch.
But not everyone thinks the same and the depression gets worse if you don't rise above it.

It is very hard to come over the depression, even though many entertainement channels and many more ways are there but all these cant make person to recover from the depression.Man need a person to share his depression and a few good word that make him to feel comfort. One can easily over come from their depression by spending time with small children or with the people who are close to them.

At any point of time in your life, you are supposed to be doing something but due to some factors (internal or external) if you can't do the right thing, it will frustrate you and if the same situation continues, you will end up being depressed.
If you can not achieve your goal, obviously, you will not enjoy other entertainments in your life.
Yes, depression is one of the most dangerous disease today and one should contact the doctor as soon as s/he comes to know that there are symptoms of depression in her/his body.

Depression doesn't arise from what you have in terms of materials like technology or money. It's a little more deeper than that and it involves your life and connections with other people. I sometimes get a little depressed sometimes when I remember a bad memory but I try to forget it anyway because the past is the past, you can't change it no matter what you do but move on. Different people experience different depressions, it could be about family member who have passed away, or family feuds or issues with lovers and friends. It can be several things and entertainment like technology can't really relieve depression because I have tried it doesn't really help. Sometimes letting go some tears may relieve all the angst and depression but if you have severe cases of depression, there's always help.
