I had been deciding whether to apply for a Government agency or a private company. I've heard that Government employees enjoys a lot of benefits, like what for example? In private companies, don't they offer the same benefits? Plus I have a notion that government pays lower than private companies. Please send in your comments, I'm really confused.

As far as I know, if it is Government Agency, even they pays lower than private companies, there are other allowances that is being given; like allowance if we are being hospitalized, and also, the most important one: pension fund. Some of private companies aren't giving those allowances, while some others are giving it, but with different scheme. It depends on the company, that's why you should make sure about it first before joining any private company..

Pension plans... that sounds nice. Atleast you don't need to get it from a third party vendor anymore. Thanks for sharing! =)

Yups, for the pension plans.. That's why most people in my country prefer to work as civil servants. But if we are being able to save our money while working on private company, I think that would be fine. And when the retirement time come, we may start our own business from our savings..

One of the biggest differences between Government employment and private sector employment is in the private sector you are paid what you are worth. You do a good job you get good pay but if you do an outstanding job you are rewarded with a nice raise and other benefits. My wife was a teacher for over 20 years. She put in extra time working with children after school and she got the same pay as the teacher who showed up at 8:00am and left at 3:30pm. She wrote several grants totalling close to $250,000 and did not even receive a letter of commendation from the school board. Several of her friends who worked in the private sector worked extra and did extra things for the company and guess what - they received very nice bonuses at the end of the year. they were also promoted to positions with more responsibility and better pay and better performance bonuses. My wife received the same raise as every other teacher.

This is so true! I have an aunt, she was also a teacher for a long long time, but she never got promoted. Then a friend of mine, studied to become a teacher and worked for a private company, after just a few years, she became the principal!
