Which side are you? The scientific or the religion side?

Life - Life is everything.

So there are two opposing accounts of which we humans and living things are created. The Scientific Side - we are created because of some statements we call theories as they are not proven yet. Like the bigbang theory, steady state theory, cyclic universe theory, and other less known theories. We are thought to be created from particles that exploded or some scientific phenomenon. The Religion Side - we are created by a supreme being, be it yaweh, allah, buddah, God, Christ, Gaia, Greek Gods & Goddesses. Every religion has their own version of creation, some are from bamboo poles, mud, clay and other things. Honestly i believed in the scientific sides than the religion side. Because for me it's kind of more realistic than the religion which is more like fantasy. No offense guys it's just my own opinion. Say something about this topic, choose a side and explain.

Yeah, I'm the religious scientific myself. I fully believe that science confirms what the Bible teaches, and I see many evidences to believe that. As for the other beliefs, I think I'd have to toss my brain into a trash can to believe that all the order, logic, and diversity of life, as well as the order of the universe overall, all came from an "explosion". Or that somehow life magically appeared for no reason. Or that a lizard became a bird, which became a whatever which became something else. I'd have an easier time believing in fairies and gremlins, than these 'scientific' fables which violate the laws of science. Yup, I believe the Bible. It is far more scientific than so-called science of today.

What does 'science' mean? Science means "to know". Science is simply learning about stuff. Why do people read the Bible? To learn about stuff. The Bible is very scientific.

I think it could not be treated the bible as a scientific because the proverbs and chapters inside the bible is no proof to shown for example: the separation of the red sea... so Science will only reject if it only happens the separation of red sea without valid explanation, it just only separated by a sorcery of power, then it will not considered as a scientific explanation.....

I mix them both! I believe G-d created a big bang and evolution happened Just as the scientists say it did! Personally I really don't care about science. I have no curiosity. So this fight is pointless.

religious issues are unending debates and point of arguments..and these issues you choose to talk about are millennial disputes which up to this point of time is still unresolved..if i say there's only one God the other will say and answer differently..if i say i'm creationist others will post contrary.. we're being divided by everything...but let me state my side i would rather believe what the bible declares than follows the foolishness or rather high intellectuals of men...

Hi arnoldream...you say "i would rather believe what the bible declares than follows the foolishness or rather high intellectuals of men..." but tell me this, what sort of people wrote the bible? And where do they refer to the facts of the earth being millions of years old? The bible states that God created Adam and Eve, the first humans but there must have been others.

i belive what the bible declares. The bible is the words of God. It says no prophecy came by the will of man,but men spake from Dod,being moved by the Holy Spirit. And the bible also declares:the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. I think it well explain the fact that 92.4% of the most outstanging scientists trust in God,including Newton,Einstain,Edison.....

I think it is a joint effort that would help make us live a better life. We cannot ignore the fact that science has made strides in that direction and religion if understood properly could also move in the same direction.

There are quotes and parables in the Bible that clearly say that one should use the talents given and science is nothing but talent which God wants man to put to use. Here is one such parable: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+25%3A14-30&version=ESV

Just for once can't we have a fusion of both religion and science. Can't we just say that God was some kind of scientist. Why don't we just stop talking about our beliefs and keep them to ourselves. Believe me when I say this, even religions people sometimes have trouble believing in God.

there is.... Science is compatible to Taoism.... for example: Science believe that there are two opposing forces: the Positive and the Negative Forces.... in Taoism, there are two opposing forces: the Yin and the Yang now.. both Yin, Negative and Yang, Positive are all equal and balanced to each other or else the whole concept might be collapsed.... it should be balanced....

With the deeper study these days of quantum physics and mechanics, it has been discovered that that which appears as solid to us, is not really solid at all. And then is have been discovered that cells are intelligent in themselves and can even communicate to each other when not in the same body. I don't believe in a Supreme Being, because even in most religions, the Supreme Being, call it God if you like, is EVEYTHING. That then, means that each and every one of us is part of everything, is everything, therefore there is no hierarchy in this at all. Then there are gods that the ancients and some modern religions attribute to things such as the trees, the mountains, volcanoes, animals, or anything at all. I see this as the essence of these things. All things have an energy and groups of energy systems make up (for example) a tree. I don't see any problem in referring to this essence as a god. It is only a word, referring to the essence that obviously exists or the tree wouldn't be manifest. So I call it essence, and maybe some religions would call it a god. One thing that is true, is that this essence cannot be defined, only experienced and witnessed. So am I on the scientific or religion side? Both and neither, I would say, but my language would differ from many people.

I have heard this said too, but Zen challenges all belief in favour of direct knowing that all is one. To believe is always a supposition, to experience directly for one's self, is to know, and belief is no longer necessary. Through meditation, I move towards a knowing that comes from within. _Derek

Hi viney, I too believe in the scientific side but I also believe that we are spiritual beings that lived before we are born into this physical body and will continue to live after it. I think that all life make up God in some way, in other words we are all one, all life is a piece of God. Blessings.

I'm on both. I've always believed that God created the necessary ingredients for the "Big Bang", but He maintains the rhythm and mathematics of it all. I do also believe in Gaia (Mother Earth) as She does provide us for everything we need, and I feel guilty that we, as humans, abuse her. I even wrote a poem once titled "Mother Earth, Father God"

I would not really want to say that I would choose the religious side. There is no certainty in either side. There are so many theories that you mentioned. Big Bang Theory seems to be the famous one. I forgot what it is exactly with other theories that have been postulated. These are man made theories or theories that scientists in the past had come up with. I believe that there is power of all the power. There seems to be a force that no scientific methods or technology could achieve or reach no matter how advanced they could be. Whether you believe in certain religion or not, there is something that people should hold on to. I believe in hope. It is something that people can try to hold on to whether rationally or irrationally. I better not go further. It's better to leave things just as it is.

The meaning of hope is very broad. It seems like you think of 'hope' as only waiting for something to happen. If you notice on my comment, I cut it with "I better not go further....", since I don't feel like writing too much. Let me try to explain a little bit more without writing too much. Hope generally has something to do with things that you could not see. It could be something that you hope will happen. It could also be something that does not happen, but in your heart, it will. Hope can linger in your mind that you hold on to it as a form of belief, confidence, or faith. You don't have to understand the broad concept of hope. It can be anything and hope can generally be a positive force to anyone.

Do I have to side with just one or can I choose both? I'm quite neutral in this situation, I pretty much support both. I am Christian but I love science, I'm studying chemistry and Physics at school and Physics involves a lot about the Big Bang theory. For me, science tries to prove the unknown, the Big Bang is just a theory, it isn't exactly the truth that the universe was created from a tiny dense ball. Where did that ball come from? Had it always existed? There are still questions that scientists are still trying to find out about. There could be another earth out, even aliens because the universe still continues to expand today. But our science is still limited so we have religion to fill in the empty spaces that we don't know about. Both is a mystery, science and religion, we actually don't know which is realer than the other. So I reckon I'll stick to both. I guess they're both trying to prove each other. The world is so complicated.

There can be no doubt whatsoever that there are other planets out there that support life and civilizations even more advanced than ours...and also others that are just begining? I believe we all come from a common source so who is to say we don't come from outer space? but even if that is so where did the first life came from? where are our origins? By the way I don't think the world is complicated we just complicate it by asking so many questions.

@triple0 well i agree with ALMOST all of what you said, but religion filling the space made by the science? i disagree with that, i mean it's like a race, religion and science have their own path they take that't why they oppose each other's explanation. @alottodo humans in nature are curious :P so we tend to ask questions to satisfy our curiosity. i also believed that we are not the only living things in this world because there are really stars out there that can support living things just like the sun, planets are being created without us knowing so it's impossible to be the only planet that can harbor living things

If we believe that God created us,then we believe we are created by yaweh, allah, budha, chirst, etc. There are too many religions around so it's hard to believe in them. There are too many Gods around so it's harder to believe in religion. But there is only one science that states that we existed by chance, which I believe more.I am more of a science guy. We have different beliefs so we must just respect each other.

I am into Science too.... for i believe that God choose Science to made all things on this world.... religion is the only way for us to think several times before committing any sins and to bring our attitude to goodness.... and that is the reason why in the world of RELIGION, there are different types of religions out there.... kept debating each other or opposing each other.... and there is no chances that those Religions will become one later, no chances.... whereas, in science, the explanation is still the same... for example, MAGNET only north pole and south pole exist... when you travel to Japan, still the same explanation, north pole and south pole is in the magnet when you travel to Africa still the same explanation, north pole and south pole even when you go around the world, still the same north and south pole... only two poles, there is no 3, no 4, no 1... but only 2 poles where as in religion: in Roman Catholics God is in 3 Personas in Christian Religion God is only 1 (no such thing as 3 personas) in Hindu God is there are plenty of Gods in Buddhism God is Zero or none...

I don't make a habit of joining in on these issues, but just for fun today, I think I'll give it a go! Firstly, in my opinion, I don't believe these two accounts necessarily oppose each other. They just each have different viewpoints & each miss out some details. So in some ways they are complimentary, one could say. I respect your view on siding with science & appreciate the fact that you prefer tangible things of substance that are closer to the realities we see in our daily lives. I'll bet you're a real hands-on type! So, for the sake of argument, I'll lean a little towards the religious side by way of balance - how does that sound? And at the same time I'll continue in my usual fashion of bashing the living daylights out of religion - just kidding!! One of the "flaws" that consistently shows up in science is its complete inability to address the force behind things. If science did as it used to do & acknowledge that there is the possibility of an unmeasurable outside force acting at all times & in all places, then we might have some progress towards the ideal of using the two explanations in complementary unison. One of the "flaws" of religions is consistently personalizing the Universal Force into a being & calling this being "God" & seeking to explain everything in terms of his personal characteristics that we associate with each other. Now there was, of course nothing wrong with this approach, because Jesus & other great masters did this to some extent, but at the same time, there is something wrong with us doing this! We are not the equal of these masters who were constantly in touch with this Universal Force. They would not have used anything like the same explanations that the religions of today use to explain the origins of creation. There is nothing unscientific or hocus-pokus about what any of the great masters who "started" these religions were taught, taught others themselves & practiced daily. All can be explained in very concrete scientific terms. I'm out of time now & it's a public holiday tomorrow, so I might be offline... who wants me to continue? Any questions thus far? Shall I expand upon any of these points further first?

I think I am not on any side at all. The reason is, I believe they will complement each other. There are still a very big area of the world that man has not yet explored. The mere fact that we only use around 8% of our brains simply means that there are so many things still beyond our comprehension. This is the reason why I think there is a logical explanation to everything. It is just a matter of time before pieces form together a giant puzzle of comprehension for us.

I'm actually kind of in between, although most of the times I lean towards the atheist side more. I'm definitely not religious, I don't practice any religion, I wasn't christened, so no thanks. But there is such a thing as being an agnostic, which means you're "a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate causes, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknownable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience" (it's from Dictionary.com). So I'm more or less an agnostic.

Isn`t this discussion nice ? If someone picks science he already looks smarter , if someone picks religion he will look like an old fashioned guy The fact is that science doesn`t have all the answers yet ,and most of the people don`t even know the latest discoveries and theories so when you pick science in fact you pick another religion ...you don`t believe a priest you believe a scientist but it is the same thing since you can`t check if he is right or wrong.
