Daily consumption of fruits is good enough for body's Vit. C requirements.

I usually don't take prepared vitamin C in capsules or liquid or syrup forms. I mostly depend my source of vitamin C from fruits sources. At least once a day i make sure that i have a good natural source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is so important because it helps boost our immune system which is responsible or acts as guards against infection and stress. Is there anything such as an overdose of Vitamin C?

There are overdoses of every kind of vitamin so it´s best if a doctor tells you if you really need pills. But if you have your vitamins by eating fruits and veggies, no overdose will come but you will have what you need. Our body knows best.

@rebelann I wholly agree. Unless a doctor discovers that you lack a certain vitamin or mineral.

It is better to get the vitamins from the food we eat rather than from pills.

Good for you to have the regimen of taking vitamin C. It is surely vital for health and it provides us protection against different types of infection. The best thing is you are using a natural source which makes even better. I do take vitamin C, but usually its from a capsule. I am always on travel and securing natural sources is not often possible for me. May you have great health always!

Getting decent food when traveling can be very hard sometimes, it is best to take a multivitamin when you travel.

For me yes it is good but not over dose it so that it can not make your kidney bad by uric acid.

Usually foods rich in vitamins such as, but not limited to, citrus, are very complete fruits you may rely your daily needs on. I would not drink any supplement without consulting my doctor or any professional on the field first. I know it's just vitamin c, but we never know how an unbalanced ingestion of anything may affect us. Take care mate.

Hello pennywise25. Thanks for the comment. I agree with you to consult first our doctors and not just choose any supplements available in the market. Too much vitamins as i understand now can never cause overdose. But i guess too much could alter the normal balance and it could possibly lead to hyperacidity of our stomach. So it is better to consult first our physician if what is the safest dose of commercially prepared vitamins. Another way which is less hassle and more safer to obtain our body's need of vitamins is to rely it on fruits and vegetables. Natural source is still the best and safest source i know.

I would prefer natural source of vitamins. I go for fruits and vegetables. Lesser risk for any imbalance in our body because its natural. and if we consult a physician for the vitamins commercially prepared that we could take, of course they will ask us to buy the one's that is expensive and the one that they will earn a percent from the earning of such vitamins or product.

I have no problem with consuming fruits and vegetables, I could eat them for two meals a day. I have to have protein along with it in every meal though to keep weight off and insulin stabilized. It works well for losing weight, one of my worse divulgences is carbs though. I can consume to many of those. There has been said that you can take too much Vit C in the past but nowa days I think there's more evidence that the more you can tolerate the better it is, but you want to gradually and slowly increase it if you're used to smaller amounts. That is my latest findings on the matter.

That's really interesting. I tend to get my vitamins simply from the foods I eat outside of Vitamin D

Yes, those of overdose of Vitamin C will have stomachaches and diarrhea. These vitamin must be used only as additional supplement in average dosage depending on your body mass index. AS a ruling said, Too much is bad for it will only counteracts the effects much worst giving you a bad effect. It must be only in average formed that is only capable of your body needs and consumption.

Indeed vitamin C is very important to our body. In my experience, I have never heard of overdose vitamin C. Too much vitamin C can't be absorbed by the intestine and it will be a waste. So, my suggestion is, don't try to consume a lot of fruits which have vitamin C a lot in it at the same time. Try to each fruit every 30 minutes so that the vitamin C isn't waste. Hope this help

Thanks for the information davidkwan95. I never tried to compensate with consuming a lot of fruits. I only consume and consider it to be part of my diet which is a portion of the whole share. Since overdose is not a problem maybe consuming lots of fruit is not an issue.

No, there's no overdose of VITAMIN C. You just eliminate any excess of this out of your body. It's good that you take fruits as the source of your vitamin C, that's even better than taking capsules everyday as supplement. Those who have busy work can do that just to be sure they won't get sick fast.

We were trained since childhood to include fruits in our diet and our parents always ensures us that if we get enough of it we won't get sick or it's rare to happen. Since then Fruits and vegetables never departed from our lives. Though sometimes we get this minor illnesses but it never to a point that were hospitalize.

Well, unless you live on a tropical island and have nothing else to do, but lay around, eat fruits, drink fruit juices etc., I think you have to supplement vitamin C. It's just the way our lives today are, the modern life is hectic, people are always busy, they forget everything, and so on. So it's much easier to pop in a pill or two, and I have nothing against supplementing vitamins and minerals. Especially if you train on a regular basis, it's just not really possible to get all the vitamins and minerals you need into your system, especially with all the processed foods we eat every day. I'm not saying though that you can't have an apple or any other fruit every day, or drink 100% fruit juices. They are really healthy. I personally eat more than one piece of fruit every day, a banana after I worked out, an apple in the afternoon or in the evening, I ate a decent amount of grapes at the end of summer, etc.

Well daily requirements for Vitamin C in the body would differ to every person i guess. For those with long hours work and stressful jobs they need more Vitamin C to boost their immune system. And they can't get enough of these through the food that they eat specially if these are processed foods. The easiest way would then to take supplements.

Vitamin C is great! It's such a necessary vitamin that you need to boost your immune system and have a healthy body on the inside. In my family, we eat fruit every day. In one week, we would consume a whole box of apples and there's only three of us in the family We would buy a batch of bananas, box of apples and a few oranges. I consume about 2-3 apples a day, is that a little too much? I sometimes take vitamin C tablets when I feel a little ill before I'm off to school every morning. But I remember that my doctor said that too much vitamin C is kinda bad. I see nothing wrong with it. But too much of something is never good.

I guess there is no need for you to take supplemental vitamin c if your regularly eating fruits since this could be good enough for your body's requirement of vitamins. I never took supplements if i consume fruits daily. Maybe it would be wise to take supplements if there are no natural source of vutamins like fruits and vegetables in our daily food consumption.

You are absolutely right, I agree with you 100% and I should add that daily intake should be limited to 500mg as per doctors daily recommended intake. Vitamin C's are water soluble so its okay to take as more than 500 mg but as we all in the medical field say too much of a good thing is bad so let's manage just taking the right amount. Aceabrea good call...

I agree with you that too much and too little of something is never good. Though Vitamin C is excreted from the body for 24 hours as what i have learned from the previous comment it is still important to stick to the daily recommended dose as to assure safety. Thank you deodavid.

I also prefer natural source of vitamin C. I also tried those capsule forms but I see to it that I also eat fruits that is reach in vitamin C. I can always forget to take my vitamin C but I can never forget eating fruits. I guess there is no such thing as Vitamin C overdose because as far as I know Vitamin c is water soluble so it easily goes out from our body. But what do you think is more economical? the commercially prepared Vitamin c or fruits? Let's just say in a day-to-day basis?
@aceabrea (184)

Hello reynald23, it is more economical to take commercially prepared Vitamin c supplements. Compared to buying fruits and vegetables which I admit that it is more costly. Here's another point, though we spend less with the commercially prepared vit. c but how about the other vitamins that our body needs? I know we have this commercially prepared vitamins that are complete from A to zinc, but for sure its not as cheap as vitamin c. So if we have a choice to either choose from a commercially prepared vitamins or a natural source of vitamins, i guess it would be wise to go natural. Let nature act. =)
