A story I read in dinamalar newspaper magazine;
There was a poor farmer in a village. He use to earn his living by doing hard work. He use to go to the nearby forests and bring wood for use and sale.
God wanted to test him. One day he kept a lot of new clothes in his house for use of the farmer and his family members. The farmer saw that and said "I have not bought these new clothes" and kept them aside. HE never bothered to use them.
After a few days again God wanted to test him and put Gold bar along with wood in the forest. The farmer on seeing that decided "this has come without our work. I shall not take them and put myself into strain for preserving them." He did not take these gold bars.
God wanted to further test him by giving suggestions through an astrologer. For all that also the farmer was not moved and he said " Why should I take extra pains to earn and save for the morrow about which I am not sure to live and enjoy"?
God was pleased with him and he bestowed all the blessings on farmer's family.
Lesson: We should have satisfaction in our earnings upto a certain level and shall not aspire for things for which we do not deserve or worked.

that was a nice story,satisfaction should also be in every person ,if not then there will not be happiness,how many have that satisfaction,its rare,i would say we should not expect for the work we had not done,or accept something which is not ours.Here there is a conflict how can we know that,that is not deserved by us,is it really not ours,if not then why should we get in our way ,is tat not shows that to get a better or the best one we are more greedy ,in the story dont u think the farmer is more trying fo r the best option rather think ing of the lowest things ,is he not clever.

Yes. I was impressed by this story because many time I use to aspire for more and more. When I do not get them achieved I use to be disappointed. To prevent that this is the best option -- being satisfied with whatever we have whatever we are able to do for others.

It's very interesting your story. It shows that one should be patient and thankful to the gifts of God. We should not be greedy.
But surely many people doesn't agree with this. And I doubt if everybody will reject the opportunity to take an asset if it gets presented. We are living in a world where everyone try to get the best of the occasion. This is usually expressed in material goods, i.e. money. Thus many times there isn't any ethics in the action of the people. The understanding of ethics may be different for each human being and also the valuation of the actions.

You have presented it differently your views. In fact there are less takers for this type of discussions --because we always want more and more --we do not have the maturity to say NO when something is offered free. My grand mother use to say repeatedly "do not accept anything given free; you must deserve to get it". she is no more. But her words will remain. I tell my children the same words.
I am back to chennai from usa and this is the first comment from India.
Double thanks for your response.

This is an interesting story my friend, and something we can all learn from. Because many times people want to take what is not theirs, and what they do not deserve instead of working for something, and Trusting God for something good in the outcome. Personally this is a great example of faith and trust we all should learn to do.

That is the eternal discussion isn't it. Whether it is more important to be successful or satisfied. The problem with success is that it does not guarantee satisfaction. The problem with satisfaction is that it impedes on the urge to succeed. So this is the universal discussion.
Cheers!
