I'm a newly registered nurse in the Philippines. We all know the poor condition of employment for nurses in the Philippines and even abroad or at least the US. Even trainings are a problem for the fees they collect from volunteers. So, I'm considering taking my master's degree while training. A lot of quality universities offer flexible class schedules for the course. I'm just confused with what to take: MAN (masters of Arts in Nursing) or MSN (Masters of science in nursing)? Which one is better? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the two? What are their differences? Are they credited internationally?
MAN = 36 units, thesis-based
MSN = 42 units, thesis-based

Hello dear, I could feel your agony... my daughter as well is a newly registered nurse and she is busy searching for job but, sad to say she is stiil stock in our house however; we are hoping for the blessing to come. She is also presently busy engaging in many trainings to prepare herself for the much greater effective use of self when she will be having her work "Fingers Cross". It nice to hear that you have great chance to continue in your Masters Degree, because even though my daughter wished to do the same we lack funds to support her for that thing. I recommend that you will pursue on MSN.. always be an angel in the sick room

I congratulate you and your daughter for passing the board exam. I know the joy the family feels during such accomplishment. Its just sad that in spite of the hard work we've been through to get our license, we end up jobless. I considered pursuing my master's degree because with all these nurses graduating each year and passing the exam, it will be difficult to compete without an edge. Plus, the older ones got experience which we do not, so it will be really difficult to get employed. And also, I've learned to love my profession and I can't just be a nurse, but I have to be a very good nurse. And There are lots of universities offering scholarships for the degree. I'm planning to look and apply for one because my parents aren't that rich too. I wish your daughter all luck and blessing on her career. Looking forward to work with her someday. =) God bless you!

Well, to be honest there is no "real" difference in the MSN and MAN. I'm not sure about any being Internationally credited to another country. On that, I would assume you would have to check with the the colleges/universities that you are considering. That could be something else that could help you with your decision!
