yeah that gruesome brainy cannibalistic killer.. Dr.Hannibal Lecktor.. made famous from Silence of the Lamb..But hey.i just found that it started in 1986..from a movie called
MANHUNTER (1986) i never that..!! thats is the first time the character was used ..hannibal played by Brian cox then. film directed by Michael Mann, was a huge hit too in USA..but mostly unheard of outside.
so this means SILENCE OF THE LAMB(1991) is actualy a part 2..where hannibal played by Oscar winning actor Anthony Hopkins..and he played it too in HANNIBAL (2001)
after they had a RED DRAGON (2002)which took place few years before Silence of the lamb..
then u have the HANNIBAL RISING..a prequel to all..in (2007)
to watch it in correct movie timeline
is - HANNIBAL RISING(2007)
RED DRAGON(2002)
MANHUNTER(1986)
SILENCE OF THE LAMB(1991)
HANNIBAL(2001)

Hannibal was based on books written by Thomas Harris. The first book was Red Dragon, followed by Silence of the Lambs, and last Hannibal. Hannibal Rising was the fourth book written, primarily to provide a basis for another movie. Red Dragon was the basis for Manhunter and Red Dragon. Hannibal's last name in books was Lector but it was changed to Lecktor for Manhunter due to copyright issues.

Watch the Manhunter because it's a great movie. The Red Dragon was kind of a remake of Manhunter, but boy, it was really bad. Even Anthony Hopkins, Ralph Fiennes and Ed Norton couldn't save that movie. And let's not even talk about Hannibal Rising. I think the Manhunter is the second best Hannibal movie after Silence of the Lambs although Hannibal isn't really in Manhunter a whole lot, he's just kind of a supporting character, the movie is really not about him. Brian Cox though gives a wonderful performance as Hannibal. My all-time favorite is still Silence of the Lambs though, I have seen it for like 30 times and I'll still probably see it a lot more than that in my lifetime. You just can't get bored with that movie it's so brilliant.

yeah..probably after they think hannibal in Manhunter was kinda cool and creepy.. they ,the writers intend to make that character more useful in Silence of the lamb..

Well, I dunno really. These movies are based on books. So the original books came first. Although it was probably intentional that Hannibal had a bigger role in Silence than in Manhunter. I don't know if it was originally intended to be that way by the writer of the books (sorry, I can't remember the name and I'm too lazy to look it up:D) or it was the filmmakers' idea. Anyway, when you think about it, Hannibal got so popular, yet he wasn't even the main villain in Silence either. He was inside the prison almost the entire movie helping Alice to find Buffalo Bill. It's just that the character is so well-written and Anthony Hopkins' acting was so good (he received an Oscar for his work), he became hugely popular. More popular than Buffalo Bill who was creepy as hell, but not that intelligent or interesting as Hannibal (although Ted Levine's acting was also superb).

yes..because..usually killers are "Psycho"(Buffalo Bill, and all the other killer u see in this franchise) but Hannibal isnt a Psycho..he is a "smart" killer..he just enjoy eating human and Kills a person when he hates them or think theyre a threat..
the novel..mainly similar to Red Dragon.hence also Manhunter is similar to red dragon too.. The character is from a book..but basically Silence of the lamb is written new..for the screen..

Yaeh Manhunter was the first movie made based on Lector. I never really cared for the Hannibal movies although Silence of the Lambs is loved by all. It did not do it for me. They are the only two I have seen. Maybe I should watch the rest, I dunno maybe I am missing something But I think you got the timeline spot on my friend

yeah..zone..my man!
i just found out about Manhunter..few weeks ago..
Silence is always the best of the bunch.. Best pictures too 1991..and 3 more oscars..
Hannibal is pretty awesome too.. and scenes where Lecktor*(i like to spell it like they did in Manhunter,,instead of Lector in the rest)are involved in Red Dragon are equally interesting..

I saw all the sequel to a few times, really interesting, especially the characters and the the psychological struggle that is displayed. We also learned a lot from that movie about the struggle of a person's thinking.

yes.."Psychological" the mind of a killer.. all thos ePsycho Insane killer..have a character deep inside..how they work and find their victims etc.. So only a "Sane" killer can tell FBI how to get this psycho killer..and 1 hell of a Dr./aka killer helping out to sniff them out..in these movies..

WOW! I didn't know all of those movies were part of the Hannibal movies. I've only seen Hannibal but I've heard about Silence of The Lambs. I haven't heard of the others. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the info.
