What is your view on pelting?

Chinchillas, minks, and foxes have been hunted and later bred for pelting for hundreds if not thousands of years. In fact leather, the pelt of cows, is often seen as a status symbol in our society. So what is your view on pelting, agree or disagree?
Personally I can not in good concience agree with pelting since we have so many synthetic fibers that are avaliable to us for clothing. However, I also can not condem people who do rely on pelting to bring an income. Each person must make their onw decision as to what is and is not acceptable to their code of ethics.

At one time pelting was (still is) a good form of income, but it was also a form of clothing. I do not agree with pelting because as you said, we have so many synthetic fibers that are available. There is no point in this day and age. I guess I see it as a form of animal cruelty.

How do you see it as a form of animal cruelty? These animals are held in comfortable cages and then peacfully put to sleep. That is more than these animals could ask for in the wild, when the threat of being killedc by wolves, bears, and even others of their own kind is ever present. They are given ample food (to fatten them up and keep those valuable pelts sleak) and are then humanly euthanized. What more could an animal ask for? Some even have a chance (for chins at least) to go to a nice home where some child will play with them on a daily basis.

Ah, looks like my reply didn't come through. Let's see if I can summarize what I had tried to post previously.
After reading your reply it made me realize maybe it wasn't animal cruelty at all. The mental image I got when I first saw "pelting" was more like a poverty country that uses and abuses the animal just for a quick buck. I feel better after reading your reply knowing they get treated that way instead of getting killed by wolves, bears, or other animals. Sorry for the mediocre reply, I had a much better one but apparently I got signed out and my post disappeared.
