why there is a war between Israel and Hamas?

I am among those who would doubt it we can only pray for those who were there, so that both sides could be reconciled and end the dispute, and end the suffering of his people Amen...!!!!!!

I think this war is long lasting and there is no way peace can be achieved between the two countries. Why? Only people living in either of the two countries can have a good answer for that. What I know is, both countries claim a portion of land (holy land currently possessed by Israel) which has been the problem that neither of the two countries can let go.
