I recently had an epiphany of sorts... after a few hours of watching the way that everything works around me, it occurs that our society has almost lost its grasp on the "Tough it out" metality of ago. I see this as a reflection of where one is born, when they were born, what type area they were born in,... all are factors in the development of the society as we know it today... one in which I believe over the past few generations has went astray from being supportive if one needs it... or just out of the goodness. We have all taken part in some sort of success and these thing i have listed and there are more, are things that whether we want to believe or not have more influence than we think on the success that is to come. thanks everyone for letting me ramble...

Your epiphany contains more truth than you yourself are aware. Or perhaps you are aware but do not agree with your own truth.
You begin by asking if we've lost the "Tough it out" mentality. I suppose that was more of a rhetorical question because you go on to show that we have indeed lost it.
But the deeper truth which you saw, and which you should have emphasized, is that it is society as a whole which has gone that way. You quite perceptively mention that "this is a reflection of where one is born, when they were born, what type of area they were born in..."
This is your truth. It is society, or rather our environment, which determines our attitude to life.
Now, coming back to persistence, is it a virtue? In most cases, yes, but at times it may be misdirected. But, overall, whether you are persistent or not will be determined more by whether you were brought up that way.
All this is simply echoing what you said. I just elaborated on it.

A certain person said, "persistence is the mother of invention.." and another one did not want to repeat the first person's words, but he/she said, "practice is the only link to perfection". Both of them had their minds set for a certain result, only that they were taking different approach for it. And that is a virtue.

Yes, it is!:) I believe in persevering to achieve what I want in life. So, to me, persistence is definitely a virtue. Oh btw, welcome!:)
