The scale of card fraud in India is lower than the global average. But it is on the rise. So, measures should be taken to secure transactions before the problem assumes menacing proportions. Can you suggest some measures to be taken by the Government of India which you think appropriate for the purpose?

DoctorDidi ... its nice to know that you are concerned about the credit card fraud, I guess more then the govt. the people who use it need to be alert and careful and the banks issusing the card need to bring in a better technology to stop the fraud. Few banks have it in place but very few people opt for it. As far as govt measures are concerned, they should make sure the cops do their work on time without asking for bribe, everthing else will fall in place.

HmHmmm...my, bad. If the integrity of the people enforcing the laws of the land are highly corruptible, that feature will double and redouble the problem many times over. It seems like it is quite easy to have a credit card for oneself in India. This should not be so. Credit cards should only be issued unto people who can be trusted to be mindful of their duties and obligations. This way, if the number of people using credit cards are limited, fraud will not be so easy to commit. Personally though, i do not have any idea as to how to be rid of credit card fraud. This is the reason why until now, I have not secured one for myself.

The thing is, I think that ultimately the best way to protect against credit card fraud is not up to the government, but instead it is up to the consumers. Yes, the government should have laws that will limit the liability that a person would have when a credit card is lost or stolen. However, individual consumers should always protect their credit cards and also make sure that they never give their pin numbers to other people to protect against that method of fraud.

The issuing banks, government and law enforcers must work hand in hand in order to give a good solution to this problem. You are right about doing something about the problem to bring it to a halt before the thing escalates to beyond finding easy solutions to it. I see this to be a serious problem which will hurt the economy in vast proportions if not aptly addressed while it is still in its growing up stage. The ones who must be tops at the concerned people's list about credit card fraud should be the issuing banks. These banks must have in place every measure needed to make such an eventuality nil. And, in all events of national magnitude, government must exert pressure where it must to have things put in their proper order.

Dear friend, I feel it would be better ourself to carefull with this. But there is an option if we are robbed in the ATM machine room. We could alert the police by reverse typing the pin number. The police will be alerted. As you noted card fraud is lower in India, it is know that new technology of withdrawing money through our mobile phones are going hope this invention could give better security options. I not much aware on the GOI measure on this. Anyhow I feel we should be careful ourself in keep safe of our cards.

I think it's to be done by the Card manufacturers, like Visa and Mastercard. Though cash withdrawal can't be done without the PIN, purchase could be made without the PIN. But, I have a DEBIT card issued by Maestro, which requires PIN for every transaction. If this system is adopted by Visa and MasterCard, the number of fraud could be brought down considerably. Further, cardholders should be careful not to give the card or PIN to strangers, even if it is high class merchants.

make the requirements to get a credit card higher, government should perform random checks on people to catch scammers and limit amount of credit cards a person can get.

For every reason, a cooperation from every field is required. All are moving by their own benefit and that is why everywhere there is corruption. People who know better in areas can make a lot of fraud works and they become experts in the number of years of experience and they know how to deal such things. If the administration also have a silent support, anyone can do anything here.
