Would you name your child after an anime or Japanese name here in America?

Hello everyone. I was sitting here thinking about baby names and thought it might be sort of neat to name my future baby after a cute anime name. What do you guys think? Is this too nerdy or would my child get made fun of for being American with a Japanese/anime name? If you were to name your child after an anime/Japanese name in America, what would you choose and why? Please do not reply with mean posts, I am pregnant and pretty sensitive at this point in time. Positive feedback please! :)

Primshine, what does your husband or father of your child says? I name my children after favorite family menbers or after people or events that brings good memory to me. I am names after my mother who was named in honor of event between my grandfather and visiting friend.

My boyfriend/the father wants a unique or interesting name, as do I. Those are nice ways to name a child. I just don't want to have a popular or overused name

Primshine, just out of curiosity: Why would this man not marry you? Or maybe I should have asked, why would you want to have a child with a man who does not respect and love you enough to marry you?

The time really isn't right. We're more focused on getting our own place and making the doctor payments for this pregnancy. I'm not very far along in the pregnancy and it wasn't really planned, so I guess that's why. I know he loves me and respects me and plans on marrying me eventually. We have been together for around 4 years, so hopefully he might at least pop the question soon :)

I don't think so. Well, all I know is I won't be naming my son Naruto.

Well, I happen to be Anime fans here, and I happen to like much anime characters. But, I don't want to name my child after an anime character name. I prefer to give a meaningful name; a name that he/she can be proud by him/herself. The one that make him/her enthusiast to explain the meaning of his/her name to everyone. I just can't imagine when in the future, someone asks my child.. "Hey, what's the meaning of your name, Son Goku?" "Well, it is because my father love Dragon Ball a lot. Sigh." In my view, that sounds pathetic.. ^^;

It depends. I think it's a little bit weird to name your child after an anime character, because not all of their names are appropriate. But if an Anime character has a normal name, I guess it's fine. I've always been a fond of the name Ichigo, but I would never call my child Ichigo. And indeed, I'm a huge fan of Manga and Anime and some names are really cute, especially when their characters are really cute also. But you can go to far. Names as Ichigo, Light and Lettuce are really not appropiate. I think that with some names your kid can get a hard time in school. But after all, it's your decision.

Thank you for the reply charleneCrush. I definitely agree with you on that one, there are some names that are just not appropriate at all. There are some cute names that I like, but when it comes to naming my kid that, I don't think i would, unless it was semi Americanized, so my child doesn't get made fun of or get called out on having a Japanese name and coming from an Irish and Italian background. lol
