I personally love chips and would much rather have then over candy but thats not what this discussion is really about. Today when I was in the car with a few friends we had a small debate whether chips or candy is worse than your helth. I think its candy but I think I'm being a lil bias because I love chips! What do the people of mylot think though? Please share

This is a pretty interesting discussion. I prefer candy to chips as I have a very big sweet tooth. That being said there are both benefits and drawbacks, nutrition wise, to these two types of snacks. Chips are generally made with starchy foods (carbs), then fried and salted heavily. On the other hand candies are full of carbs too and sugar. They will bring up your sugar levels. But some candy has chocolate, when eaten in moderation is actually good for you. In the end, I guess it just really depends on the kind of chip, whether it is baked or fried, and the kind of candy, if it is high fat or just high sugar or if it is made with a sugar substitute. Personally though, if I had the choice of the two to snack on I would always pick the sweet candy. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I think it can be the chips because of the fact that they put too many oil and fat into the chip products. Although candy is also bad too because of too much sugar. I don't know what to decide overall. I think it is the candy because of too much sugar. Although, I am the same, I like chips and probably just saying that so I won't have to be against the chips as I do like it.

00fear I'm glad I'm not alone in not being able to decide without being a little bias. BenCo9 you are right but getting diabetes is not really a short term harm, it lasts a life time so in some ways can be just as bad in some cases

I don't know which one of the two is unhealthier for the body but I love eating both. If I'm at home, I love eating chips, if I'm at school or somewhere else, I just like a candy. I love eating both.

Cute discussion! Well, I think it's a fact that chips and candies is bad to the health if taken too much. I love chips too but I see to it that I get to eat not that often because I'm not getting any younger. And I realized that I have low tolerance eating too much sweets either.

If they are considered bad typically only when eating too much of one do you think they're okay to eat a little at a time?

well u have stuck chords with my waek links me also so facinated with eating chips that it is not possilbe for me to tell. But i recently came across a study in which it was said that people who eat chips more are bound to get fatter and have 10% more chance of getting lifestyle disease .so its true that fried chips are not good for health .But in case of candy the sweetness is harmfull for our teeth that what the doctors say ,people who have eaten lots of candies in thier childhood have malformed teeths so all in all if thnigs are eaten in a controlled manner then its absolutely fine with our body. But excess of both the things is bad for our body

If both eaten in moderation do you think they would be also harm free to people? as long as not eaten in large quantities all the time..

I would say candies are less unhealthy than chips. Because when you eat chips, you can eat the whole bag, but when you eat candies, you only take a few. Although if you eat too much candies, you will have problems with your sugar level, not to mention your tooth enamel. But it's worse when you eat too much chips, because chips contains certain carcinogens that can cause cancer. So we should really watch it when we eat chips, I for one loves chips. But my family have history of having cancer, so I should think better.

Very tru! I did not think about the fact that most people eat a lot more chips than they would eat in one sitting if it was candy

hi sydney J if you get Lays baked chips they are still yummy and are not oily or greasy just potatoes baked in an oven .candy most of it is pure sugar and too much sugar is not helping to add anything of worth to your bodies health. for fun for us diabetics you can get sugar free candy. but it helps your moral but does not affect y your health good or bad. I as a diabetic on changed stronger meds. go low a lot so keep quick acting hard cany on hand at all times. the admins there does not so we must have emergency supplies we with diabetes.

I love candy during the times which I know I needed a lot of energy and have to stay awake. While doing an internet job, it is best to have a candy, much better a chocolate bar instead of chips because it will keep you awake!

I agree that candy does a better job at keeping people awake but is the sugars in the candy end up being harmful for your body in the end?

I also think is candy, because they are mostly only sugar and they don't satisfy a person. While, chips, can be a meal even though having a lot of fat and salt.

I prefer candy than chips, but I believe the first one is worse to our health. I don't have any medical formation, but I think candy can give problems to your teeth, can cause diabetes, makes you fatter and probably other problems that I don't know. For sure chips can cause you a lot of problems too, but I think they are less problematic than candy. But with you really want to take care of your health, nothing better than fruits, vegetables and fibers. Happy mylotting.

I disagree with you SydneyJ. Chips are worse for your health because they almost always contain large amounts of sodium (raises blood pressure) and trans-fats. Candy has large amounts of sugar- but unless a person is a diabetic, the only adverse health effect is tooth decay (and that is really only if tooth brushing is not a part of regular hygiene regimen.)
