A Muslim Cultural Center in the MIDDLE of Ground Zero: Good or bad?

Personally, i feel its the psyche behind terrorism. many think its because of religion itself. No. it is the people who contort religion to fit their needs in this case, mass murder. yet, i find it horribly disturbing that barely a decade after the massive destruction of the world trade center at ground zero, due to an Islamic millitant group, now a couple of muslims want and have built, literally, a mosquein the CENTER of ground zero. i mean, yea, religion was exploited but, after all, the taleban was islamic. the attack was horrendous, by fanatical muslims. now they want to build a muslim prayer house there? So, what are ur views? 1.Insensitive? 2.Naive? 3.Or for the good of the people to stop us from generalising on islam as terrorism? What do u guys think abt it? PLUS, was Obama right in advocating the cultural center? personally, i feel it was a wrong move, for the very fact americans, like it or not had already been generalising for decades on everything, even islamism. i doubt such advocation might give him support.

I think it is time that us Americans start looking past these 'generalizations'. We live in the 21st century, we can't keep ideals from the stone ages! God wants us to treat everyone as equals, and live with an open mind. After doing research, and talking to a lot of muslims, I've seen that they're not violent or as bigoted as we believe. the religion itself is very peaceful, and is updated constantly. All of the terrorists and jihadists are illiterate people who are steered into the wrong path by other illiterate people. Classic case of blind leading the blind. Just because there are extremist groups, doesn't mean we can judge the rest of them for the exact same thing or wrongly assuming they have the same beliefs! I know I definitely wouldn't want someone to judge me on my religious beliefs.

Hi Fan. This is what I normally see on internet. Anyone can say anything about anyone. But Who cares. How people an judge most people after seeing few. If there are some terrorist, how can they judge all Muslim who are being killed by the So-Called Islamic groups. They are just feeding themselves and making fool to some idiots and using them.

I can say that not all Muslims are bad people. God made us by His image and Likeness meaning we are equal. We may have different religions but we have one person we can turn to and that is God right? It may be traumatic not only to the Americans but also to the world, let us remember that Muslims also pay tribute and sympathy to those victims because we never know that their loved ones were also victims to the 9/11. Muslims also pray for peace too.

This is a new one on me. I have not heard that an Islamic group wanted to build a cultural center in the middle of "ground zero". I think that you are mistaken and that no such plain exists. If you have information that can substantiate your statement please give it to us. If you can not prove your point than you are just trying to create controversy where none exists.

This has been in the works for quite sometime, it isn't getting a lot of media attention. I have found several links for you to read about this. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nancy-fuchs-kreimer/proposed-muslim-community_b_583437.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/22/ground-zero-protests-islamic-center_n_690504.html http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/05/planned_muslim_cultural_center_near_ground_zero_pr.php http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/26/nyregion/26muslim.html

Hi Chiang, The place is not exactly the ground zero, it is near to that. As we all know no one can make anything at ground zero. People should get their facts right...

Why insist to build an Islamic cultural center near such a mass murder site carried out by Islamic terrorists that insist the use of terror to protect their religion. It is just perplexing to many people. But when one look deeper into the person and group that generate such a controversy, one can see some of the major players in this proposal of islamic cultural center are hidden out of public sight and only involve in providing financing for the building and construction cost secretly. So far, nobody really know about the hidden agenda of the imam that insist to go ahead even with so many objection from the residents in NY city. May be he has other agenda in his mind other than just a cultural center. You can never know their real intention behind it.

Having an Islamic cultural center right in the heart of America's financial center will provide a much needed cover for new wave of terrorism. It doesn't need you to be a genius to figure this one out, if they can't use community center or business entity to facilitate attack plan on the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I think an argument can be made for either side..but the fact that some suffered such tragic memories in the area, should be enough to honor their requests.

I don't support the issue. Obama should not given the permission to build mosque there. I think he is ignoring general American feelings
