Quotations denote distilled wisdom. Do you love/use them?

Quoting quotes - Reading & collecting quotable quotes

Hello myLotters, From my early childhood, I have held special fancy for quotations. Every time I read a quote somewhere and related to it in some way, I used to reflect on it over & over again. Before the advent of internet, I had my own book of famous, interesting and quotable quotes. I used to buy books of quotations. I would not miss any opportunity to write or reproduce a quotation befitting the occasion. Even now, on my blog, I insert thought provoking quotes for my readers to reflect. To me, quotations denote distilled wisdom from profound thinkers. They help build a strong personality if well employed. What is the power of quotations? Do you love them like me? Do you reflect on their meanings and use them in your life? How? One profound quote I keep reflecting on again & again as a means of auto suggestion is: "If you have faith in three million mythological gods and all the gods history has introduced to you but still do not have faith in yourself, then there is no salvation for you" [Vivekananda] Share your views and also any quote that has made an impact on you or you cherish.

Reading quotes is a great way to express thoughts, or ideas that you just can't verbalize or to enhance arguments and discussions. I can't remember quotes that well, but I enjoy reading them, especially if they're written by my favorite authors/philosophers/musicians/actors/etc. Along with owning books about quotations, I get daily quotes in my inbox from a fantastic website that I could send you a link to, if you're interested.

Hello fangirl, Thanks for posting with that crisp line "..express thoughts that you just can't verbalize..". Rightly, that's one fantastic value of quotes. I'd certainly want to add the link to my bookmarks. Pl send it.

http://dailylit.com/ The link is to a fantastic website called 'DailyLit'. I stumbled across this while trying to find online versions of classic books. You don't have to sign up for it- you can just give them your email address and get regular installments of whatever book you want to read for free! You can even specify how often and at what exact time you want the installments to be sent to you! I've revisited so many old favorites- and new favorites as well!- through this wonderful site. I'm subscribed to "Many Thoughts of Many Minds" which sends you individual quotations from a wide variety of people. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Cheers!

I love quotations and some of them have been powerful enough to change my life in the past. I don't have a favourite - I love hundreds of them equally. For me, a clever, wise quotation...sometimes with the addition of wry humour....can contain a whole world of wisdom in just a few words. Also there are some quotations which, with the passage of time, you can see several meanings inside of. Some people have written whole, huge books just trying to express what someone else has managed to say in a quotation comprised of just a few words.

Hi CelticSoulSis, You have rightly pointed out about the true significance of quotations: power in fewer words. I too like wry humor interspersed, which add their own influence. Thanks for posting your comment.

I must say that I tend to share your fancy. In fact, I usually post one on my notice board in my workplace everyday. It has now become quite popular with people actually phoning me when I am on leave to ask what quotation to put up on the notice board. So now I plan ahead and leave it with some other person to update the board when I am on leave. :) My favorite one is "Don't let your sense of morals, stop you from doing what is right." This is a quotation taken from the character of Salvor Hardin in the novel "Foundation" by Isaac Asimov. Cheers! Ram

AH, Yes...the words of prophets..soooo guide me in my walk thru life! No matter what I encounter, there is the strength and wisdom in the quotes of "Kahlil Gibran", that help stabilize the world that I live in, and give me the insight to make sense of some very ridiculous situations. Forgot to mention, Welcome to myLot..and a really good quality discussion! Cheers!

Forgot to add, one of Kahlils; "words are just crumbs from the feast of a mind!"

You are most welcome...to your Welcome! I think possibly the book loaned to you, seeings it was poetry, was probably his last...and most famous entitled "The Prophet" written in 1923...just 5 years before his passing! I know, there are many, many "sayers of word's of wisdom" in this world, and each of us finds one that helps us internalize our thoughts/emotions..and Kahlil just happens to be the one that I can relate to..as I so often find one that stabilizes my turmoils. And, of course, in closing...I must add the one that is my daily guide. "God made Truth, with many doors to welcome every believer that knocks on them!"

Hi, First off, thanks for the warm words of welcome. :) Khalil Gibran was a great poet and a roommate of mine while at college introduced me to the works of Khalil. I admired his work. I can't immediately recollect the title but the book he shared with me was profound. Thanks for posting with a wonderful quote from Khalil. Cheers. :D

"If you have love you do not need to have anything else and if you do not have love,it does not much matter what else you have." - by Sir James M Barrie Quotes are wonderful, I suppose the one above is the one that I have adopted. They are wonderful to read and I think the ones from famous people are often inspiring. I made one once and I think it got put out there, though I have found out that even though you come up with something you think is original unless it is really unique someone else, somewhere in the world might of as well. "No money, no funny!" not the greatest but definitely an impact. :-)

Hi Bluedoll, That is a wonderful quote. Its the quotes from great [I would replace that for famous, if you will] people which truly inspire, like this one: "Education is th manifestation of the perfection already within"-Vivekananda Your quote makes impact for sure. Thanks for sharing.

I also share your love of quotes. I think that they are wonderful. They allow us to share a broad idea with a lot less words, especially if the quote is well-known. Quotes have a lot of power.

For me yes I love to use it so that it can determine your words not to use it.

i always believed in the quote Live every day of your life like it was your last, beacause life is just too short to waste. try to use them as much as possible but sometimes it just becomes too difficult when you are really at the worst in life
