Can anyone tell me why we love to listen to sad songs when we're broken-hearted? isn't it a little ironic? aren't we supposed to listen to inspirational songs instead?

I think it's because of our environment, the world and people around us....I noticed that most Filipinos are very emotional when it comes to love, while westerners are not that much emotional....this is just what I observed.

hello hexebella, westerners are more liberated than filipinos but when it comes to love, i guess they're just as emotional as the filipinos :)

I think that it is a natural tendency. When we are broken-hearted and if we listen to a sad song, indirectly we get comforted by thinking that not only us, there are other people who are also facing similar problems. The effect is magnified if the lyrics of the song are close to our feelings.

Many people can relate to slow (sad songs) songs when there in a relationship or when they were in a previous relationship. I don't think its ironic. There are slow songs that are inspirational.
