I have been sleeping so much lately and its like I still can sleep the rest of the day away! I went to bed last night at 8:30pm and slept until 9:00 am. This was without an alarm, I have had a very stressful few months. So now I just want to sleep sleep and sleep!

Typically people need about 8 hours a sleep a night but in cases where people are overly stressed, active or unificient diet people tend to need more sleep because your body needs to recoop from everything. I would saay its not a veery bad thing if you sleep extened hours every once and while but if its happening all the time you may need to make some adjustments to your life or talk to a doctor

I was doing much better only sleeping for six hours and that was just enough, woke fresh and ready for the day. But now I am back on the sleeping several hours and I really dont like that. So I have been setting the alarm and jumping right up. I drink my one cup of coffee and I dont let myself lay down. I also have been making my bed right away so I dont want to mess up the bed.

I agree with SydneyJ. I find myself sleeping more when I'm actually stressed out or not feeling well of course. But on a typical night, I sleep for eight hours maximum. Six hours is actually enough for me to function properly without wandering through the day like a cranky zombie.
But if your sleep pattern is really bad, such as you're sleeping too much on a regular basis or having issues with trying to sleep on a regular basis, definitely talk with your doctor.

Even though what people say that the average of sleeping time is 7-8 hours or 8-9 hours, if I remember correctly from my readings, sleeping hours is determined by how much your body needed the rest. If you had been in a lot of stress, you body would need a certain amount of compensation of your time to recover back to normal it's normal function.
I and my siblings usually sleep for 4-12 hours (if we have no school) or more due to stress from trying to cope up with lessons. So your situation is your body trying to normalize/managing itself to maintain your regular internal functions.
My advice: Obey what your body is telling you to maintain good health.
Happy MyLotting!

If I had been able to read your comment, I would have selected you as Best Response. A very well informed addition to my discussion. I was thinking that I was sleeping so much because my body needed it. I had a nervous break down that spread through an entire summer. (which is why I am very nervous about this summer) But my best friend had told me in the beginning of the fall, that I will probably sleep a ton. She also told me to be sure that I just let myself sleep as much as I needed.

Your friend's advice is a good one and I really suggest that you follow it.
My mom is lacking sleep previously and later had a problem sleeping due to her recurring nightmares. I encouraged her to sleep more despite having those nightmares and pray that she won't be harmed--while having those dreams. The reason is because she's on the verge of not sleeping at all which is very dangerous already.
Right now, she's starting to regain her sleep. But I still feel that she's lacking the needed rest of her body.
Glad that my response is helpful. Have a nice day!

Personally anytime someone wants to sleep continuously like this, is not good. This is usually a sign of Severe depression, and you need some type of meds to help you. I would seriously be talking to your Doctor if this is still happening, and let them know what is going on and see if there is something there that they can give you to help you out. It could also be a sign of other Health problems as well, so hope you have had time to get this checked out.

Thank you for your response.I did go to the doc. I am healthy and pretty much out of my depression. But I actually feel better getting the extra sleep now. Its been better than staying up all night and only sleeping a tiny bit right before it was time to get up.

I think if I quit my job tomorrow, and all other stress (mainly financial) are taken away from me, I would also be able to sleep and sleep and sleep. I think that I have been sleeping less and less that it's really showing through my health. I need some time to heal up.
And catch some zzz's.

I kinda did quit my job. Well I am on an extended medical leave. Not sure how long, like a few years maybe more. I had a terrible break down and then it was impossible for me to even care for my children. I had to do something different to care properly for them. They deserve me at my best and no less. I take seroqeul, and thats what has made me so tired. I have since gotten a much better sleep schedule and I still do sleep around 12 hours. But I try to make sure I go to sleep by 8pm then I will wake up by 8am. And then I am awake and not tired through the day until the next time for my bedtime.

Wow,I'm so jealous of you!To tell you the truth,I can sleep no more than 5 hours a day! It's so hard for me to go to sleep and it's so easy to wake up at night!I have to manage to have a nap at noon to avoid myself to have a headache, but in fact I can just close my eyes to rest and have never gone to sleep! If I can fall asleep while napping I would rather be late for work!

I know all to well about wanting to be awake at night, I like the quiet that surrounds me after I put everyone to bed and the house is clean. Lately I go to sleep and I am out for the night. I sleep like a rock! But then there are days that I lay there as I am sleeping but I am wide awake.

Be careful because too much sleep can actually make you feel tired - hence why you want to sleep! I know that before I had a baby, it was often easy for me to sleep in to 10, 11, 12 on the weekends. Then I felt like my whole day was gone! Since I've had a baby, I have to get up around 8-8:30 every day because that's when she gets up. Now I've learned that I can actually get a lot more done and be very awake all day!
I read that before about getting too much sleep, so now I try not to sleep LONGER but instead try to sleep BETTER. Focus on getting good sleep for a shorter period of time rather than lying in bed for 12 hours and I bet you'll feel better.

I need to sleep at least seven hours and that would be great for me. But usually I sleep late, especially when I don't have to go to the office to work. If I have to work the next day, I will try to sleep earlier so that I can have more sleep for my work. This evening I went with my other two colleagues to have a nice dinner in a hotel and then we went to KTV and just came back after twelve. Now it is 0:35. Tomorrow I have to work, so I don't think that I will have enough sleep tonight. Now it is time for me to say Good night to myself. Take care, ladygator.

If you have had a stressful few months, then it makes a lot of sense that your body should want to make up for the hours of sleep that it has missed out on over those months. You should also be aware of the fact that it isn't just the amount of sleep that is important, but also the quality of the sleep that you get. Adults generally need somewhere between seven and eight hours sleep, whereas children might need twelve. New born babies might sleep for up to twenty hours per day (although it doesn't feel like it) and their bodies and brains are still developing at a very dramatic rate.

I know pretty well about the sleep that the kids need;. I am good at making sure my kids have always gotten enough sleep each night. And my friend told me I should just sleep a lot if I need to for a few months and then get back into daily exercise and the right amount of sleep.

Wow Lady, you are lucky to be able to have such a long sleeping time without any interruption. How i wish i can have this kind of sleep for a few days. As for me, usually i am only able to sleep for only 5 - 6 hours. Because i have a growing son who will always wake-up in the middle of the night, either wanting to drink or pee. Hopefully, when he is growing older a few more years later, i won't be face with this kind of problem anymore. So, able to enjoy a much longer sleeping hours up to 8 hours per day.

I usually sleeps for 5 hours, but I still feel sleepy so better to have a good sleep at least 7 hours is the best.
I don't want to take naps in the afternoon it gives me headache.
It depends on our lifestyle how much sleep we have in a day.
but, health wise, we need to sleep at least 7-8 hours.
Have a good day

It seems that you are very in tune with your health. So many people are not, I very rarely can take a mid-day nap since I just want to keep sleeping and then when I cant just keep sleeping I turn into a crabby lady.

Wow that is so much like me. I sleep a lot too and lately have been sleeping a bit too much.
For me, I need a minimum 8 hours of sleep a day. If it's less than that then wow my day is surely being a bad one and I keep yawning and feel drowsy all day. And on weekends I sleep for 10 hours I think.

I know. Isnt it weird how it can really be such an issue as to if we get to much or to little? I wish there was an automatic internal sleep timer. We would get sleepy right when we needed to go to sleep. Sleep about 8 hours and then wake up ready to go! Lol

Wow.. How I wish I could also sleep as much as you could. However, seemed like my internal body clock is not letting me to experience it. The duration of my sleep was 5-10 hours only. It really upsets me everytime I wake up so early in the morning eventhough its my free day or weekend. Even though I am very tired, I still have an early wake up call by my body clock. It also frustrates me whenever I wake up earlier than my alarm clock. hahaha.. it's funny but it's true.

I wish I could sleep my normal 6 hours and wake refreshed! That would be very good because I would then have enough time to jog in the morning and get it out of the way. I used to get up and follow along with a workout video and that made my day productive and positive. I actually loved it when I could wake up at a time that I set in my mind without the alarm.

It is conditional. sometimes I can sleep 2 hours a day. but sometimes I spend a whole day sleeping. It depends on how hard I work at that day.

I am like that also. There are some days during the week that I sleep very little and can function on that. There are a fews days out of the week that I like to play catchup on my sleep. To ensure that I am healthy.
