I saw my sister post on facebook that she is now the new boy scouts leader for the 3rd graders. Her son is in 3rd grade. I thought it was so odd that a female would be a boy scout leader but since the male boy scout leader quit I guess no one else stood up to take over so with her doing it the boys can have boy scouts. If she hadent done it then I guess there wouldnt be any boy scouts fo that grade this year. If you were in boy scouts did you have a male or female scout leader? What would you think if your child was in boy scouts and the leader was a female?

I was a boy scout when I was young, and I always had male teachers as scout leaders. I would have thought that it was odd if I had a female scout leader. The real story here is that it's a bit sad that people don't take time to volunteer anymore. Thank goodness that your sister took on this responsibility. Even if it's just because her son is in the group. Maybe she'll like it and still be a scout leader even if her son isn't anymore.

I just dont really see her being a good scout leader. They have a can collection where the boy scouts go around once a year in town asking for donations of cans for a food drive. My sister doesnt want to do that. There was a hike that they had to do last year during the summer and you would think that she had to walk to canada and back lol. As far as just sitting at meetings and whatever she will probably do fine but doing things like camping forget it she hates that stuff she will probably try to get out of it. That stuff is usually stuff that men enjoying doing. I love doing that kind of thing but my son is to little for boy scouts and I dont like to volunteer my time lol.

I dont know I probably wouldnt. I do think its nice that people do volunteer but its just not for me to do something like boy scouts lol. I mean I would enjoy doing the outdoorsy stuff but I wouldnt want to lead a whole pack of boys doing stuff like that. Id go along with them but not want to be the one to have to organize it and do all that stuff. My kids arent in any extra stuff like dance classes or girl scouts. Its expensive so I dont put them in anything. Plus there isnt enough time in a school day for that as well.

Maybe not now, but when your kid is old enough, and they still have no good volunteer, then you just might find yourself filling those shoes.

Yeah that is pretty odd I think.lol. I mean its for boys, I wonder what the boy scouts think of the female leader. They probably do not mind and it would really be awkward to have your mom be a leader of your boy scout group. That I would not like and I think I would quit boy scouts.lol. It would be very embarrassing I think. But I hope she enjoys doing that and I am sure she will learn things also. Happy Mylotting!! :)

Being a girl at that age I would have thought it was cool that my mom was the leader like I would get to show off and be like yeah thats my mom lol. But I dont know how an 8 year old boy would feel. Hes pretty good about things I dont think he will be embarrassed. Hopefulyl not anyway lol. The boy scouts who have been in it for a few years probably will find it odd that they now have a female leader I would guess. As long as they have fun though they probably wont care.

In the UK, Scout Leaders are generally male and Guide Leaders are almost always female. I have never heard of a female scout leader though Cub leaders are very often female (in fact, more often than not, I believe). These days, I wouldn't turn a hair if the Scout Leader happened to be female. These are the days of equality of the sexes, especially for adults, and I think that it would actually be unlawful to reject a potential candidate for leadership on the grounds of gender. What would be far more important would be whether they had gained their Wood Badge and were capable of doing the job. I believe that 3rd Grade means that the children are aged 8-9. In England, children of this age would not be eligible to join the Scouts and would be either Cub Scouts or Brownie Guides, so a female Akela would actually be the norm.

Well it probably is cub scouts actually but I just think of it as boy scouts because even though there is different categories in girl scouts such as brownies etc its all basically the same thing just different ages do different things. I hope she does a good job. This is her first time doing it so I suppose she will have a lot to learn. I hope she has fun doing it though. I'm totally not one to volunteer my time doing something like that lol.

I have the same reaction like you, it is kind of odd to have a female as leader in boy scout. When i am in high school, i am a boy scout, all my leaders (we call him boy scout master)are males. Female normally take over as leader in girl guide. May be time had changed, it is no more that important to judge a leader ability base on gender, i am perfectly fine with a female leader if my child is in boy scouts as long as she can lead by good example and show great leadership.

I told my boyfriend about how my sister is the new boy scout leader and how it seems odd its not a man for the boys and women for the girl scouts. He said when he was young and in boy scouts that his scout leader was a woman as well. It was one of the boys in the boy scouts mother. I dont think I would have a problem with it either if my son was in boy scouts it just seems a little odd.

I agree I find it odd she would do it being it is a boy scout troop but like you said if she did not step up the boys would not have a leader right now and would not have a troop.

Right I'm glad she stepped up and is doing it but at the same time when I heard that she was I thought to myself it doesnt seem like it would be something she would be very good at. Shes kind of lazy and not outdoorsy. This saturday is a camping thing. Shes going to go during the day and as a den mother she is supposed to stay the night with the kids but she is going out drinking for a halloween party so shes not going to be staying with the boys at camp.

I'm not sure if she is like the main leader. Its kind of confusing. I figured when it came time to do things like this she wouldnt. I wish someone like a man who had time to spend with the boys would have stepped up to be the leader. There will be someone who will stay there with the boys but she was supposed to stay as well from what my mother said. My mother doesnt know yet the reason why my sister isnt going to be staying with the boys. She will call me fuming when she finds out. Which my sister never tells her anything until she finds out which will be at the last second when shes getting ready and then drops my neice off at my house after my kids go to bed.

If she is a lazy person I see where you are coming from.I hope she has someone else staying with the boys while she is at the bar that is not right to only do her job part of the way and not finish it. I feel so bad for these boys.
