It was 12:00 at midnight and I heared fire trucks alarm, I looked down through the window and saw three fire trucks and one ambulance infront of the building where We live, the first thing I did was get ready with my 2 kids to go out I was going to use the elevador and my 9 years old son said : "mom will be better if we use the stairs" , so , We did .(we live in the 6th floor), We went down , some of my neighbors remained in their apartments, so, I felt like I was over reacting for a moment, but , kept going. Many people outside were looking up to the building next to ours,we stayed there for a moment and then the fire trucks left ,that was a false alarm. We went back home feeling safe, Ohh I got so scared my legs were trembling, thanks God it was nothing. Do You think I over reacted? What would You do?

I think u didnt over reacted its just a curiosity for finding a safest method before something happens bad. If u over reacted to those incidents people wil think u as mad as ur worrying about unnecessary things. As its good idea to make think that ur family is safe at all the time. Because any thing can happen in next seconds.

There is no such thing as over acting when you have children in mind. I too would have done what you did. I rather be safe than sorry. A while back our Fire Alarm went off in the middle of the night, I was confused because there was no smoke, I checked the entire condo, and even went outside to check the neighbours's homes. There was no sign of fire. Turned out that it was the largest steriod infested house fly that triggered the test button the fire detecter. So back to bed we all went, except me who was told by sleepy eyed child that I should get it so none of us would be freaked out again. It always pays to check and go to be safe. Thumbs up for being a good mom!

Thanks, Yes I feel a good mom. I like always to plan my things and in this case I though the fire was in the next building , so, I decide that I have enough time to get dress and pick up some money and my documents and go out to wait , Now that You comment I feel so supported . have a good day.

I can certainly understand where you're coming from! I don't think you were over-reacting at all. When I was newly married, we lived on the 7th floor in a large apt building. It seemed like every time we turned around the fire trucks were there. I found that really scary. If it was on the opposite end of the building, we would keep an eye on the fire trucks, and if they were there a long while (or if we saw smoke coming out of a window closer to our apartment) then we'd go down and wait outside. Our logic was that since it was way down at the other end of the building, and our end wasn't involved, we could still get down the emergency stairwell if needed. In my opinion, it's better to err on the side of safety than to be trapped so high up in the air.

You did the right thing, actually. I would have done the same. Actually, I used to live in an apartment and there would be fire alarms on some days or nights. Alot of people do get downstairs and there are also some who chose to stay in their apartments. One time, everyone was told to get downstairs and I did too. There was a fire up on those higher floors. So, it is a good thing to get out of the building because we never know if fire will spread. Afterall, it is for safety procedures and you were right by having taken your kids downstairs with you in the first place.
