I have connected my old pc and laptop in order to transfer files from the old computer to my laptop using a (directs) LAN cable. But copying files in public transfer, i get file transfer speeds of only upto 7 to 9MBPS. This is way slower than the capabilities of LAN ports.
What do you think coould be the reason for the slow file transfer speeds over the LAN cable?

hi sunnybuddy i think it is slow because there are many files that you are transferring or there are some virus ... It is much more better to check it early, try to scan first your files before moving it to one another place :)

There are so many different brands of LAN card. Most are not compatible with each other, or so it seems. I have had that problem but changing a card solves the problem.
Also use static IP addresses.
Whatever I do, the computer to computer transfer rate is much slower than the computer to router speed. I can't explain that!
