I just got my computer fixed, and I just got around a long way to get it done. Somehow on Thursday night, my computer just infected with malware, spayware, or virus, whatever your name it. Every time I turn on the PC, an mysterious icon pops up, told me to buy this protection shield from microsoft, and it keeps on running to scan the whole system by itself. Too bad, my Norton Internet security just recently uninstall, and that is the problem I open the door and invited them to come in. I restart with the safe mode, and trying to install the Norton antivirus again, and it just couldn't find any virus, that just give me a bit of headache. I also use microsoft security essential, it detected 2 serious problems, and suggested me to remove them. After I had done so, my Windows just keep on load up repair mode. Without a choice, I load the Win XP disc to format the hard drive, and attempt to install Win xp. After Win xp installed, I couldn't get any online access even though I have my internet service connected the whole time. With frustration, I installed the Windows 7 once again. This time, everything work just fine. That just took me over 3 hours to get it done. I just wonder, what other method to format the hard drive, or get rid of everything much efficient, and reinstall the Windows? Any advice or help for me?

It is very hard to rid your computer of malware when it is heavy infected. I suffered the same problem. Free remedies don't always work it took me 2 months to rid my computer of the infections. Now my on/off switch has gone bad. To be honest when your computer gets a problem it is best to call in a professional computer repairperson or someone who is advanced in malware removal.

well well wel.. it wasn't issue of formatting of hard drive.. the icon keep poping up calls malware.. antivirus can't remove all malware files.. for that you should have run antimalwarebytes.. or spybot any spyware.. which might have removed those dangerous files.. anyways.. just reading your second discussion.. let me complete it and answer it.. :)

Hey friend, if you have been getting such a big headache with viruses and all, and if your not a big gamer or something, or you want to work on a virus free computer, i would suggest you change your OS to linux, or you can also use the wubi(windows with Ubuntu) from the ubuntu page, it helps you to simultaneously run 2 OS on your PC, I can gladly say that you would not complain about any virus again. :) Hope it is useful.

Norton antivirus is just a overrated antivirus and doesn't find everything. I recommend downloading Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, CCleaner, and if you don't have an antivirus anymore than AVG is a great option. All are free to download and are great programs. Make sure you upgrade each program and then run a scan. With Malwarebytes and Superantispyware, I'm sure that pop up won't pop up any more. CCleaner is the best if you have a file and a registry that just doesn't want to delete completely, but if you don't know much about registry then use the registry option on CCleaner.

In my experience, maybe it was originally due to uncontrolled surfing or you just download the files that have been infected. My advice are, protect your computer thoroughly, and carefully surf the internet or download files from the internet. Then make sure that all our activities on the internet is completely safe for our computer. Thank's

I really don't know what to tell you. I have used bitdefender and it looks fine to me. I think you can format your hard drive in different computer. You can reinstall windows there but it is too risky because it may infect the computer. Try to use CD installer.
