A few days ago i read in a newspaper that in some chinese city they asked dog owners to kill their own dog because that city banned dogs. I've seen videos of people/police in china beating stray dogs to death, even though none of those dogs attack people. There is no option but to kill rabid dog or dogs that attack people but 99% of stray dogs are harmless poor animals.I remember a news i heard a few years ago or so, dog owners in china were asked to kill their second pet dog because of their one-dog policy or police would beat their dog to death, likewise taller dogs were also asked to be killed by their owners. If they dont they have to pay heavy fine and then see their pet getting beaten to death! Have you ever wondered how would you feel if you were living in countries like that where you have to see your beloved pet dying just because the govt. don't allow your pet to live!

Hello Ravi,
I don't want to think about such a drastic measure. I can't imagine what I would do if somebody asked me to get rid of my dog!
There was a local law here that said dog owners should ask for their neighbor permission to keep a dog into their own apartment. I hadn't heard a more stupid law. Instead of this, they would better put high fines for those who disturb their neighbors.
The same should happen in those cities that you read about. Instead of such drastic measures, they should better put high fines for those who don't clean after their dogs or for those who disturb the peace of the neighborhood with their dogs' barking.
What would you do if your authorities forbade dogs in your area?

In my area they would never ask people to abandon their pet dogs.If they had to they would have did something about the stray dogs first. They do get rude sometimes to stray dogs when someone gets attacked buy a pack of dogs, especially during night times when stray dogs are very territorial.
I think the law you said about getting permission from neighbours to keep dog in apartment makes sense because dog barking would annoy the ones living in the nearby flats. Some dog-hating neighbours might complain it to authorities and put you under pressure whenever your dog barks. Also i think it is not nice to the dog to make it live in a small apartment.Dogs need at least a small piece of land with soil so that they can walk around.

If the neighbors were normal people, that law would make sense. But when the neighbors are mean people that would say no only to upset you, it doesn't make any sense. I don't say that dogs should be alowed to disturb the neighborhood through loud barking. Their owners are supposed to train them to be quiet and to provide them with everything they need in order to be good neighbors. If it is proved that some dog disturbs the peace of the neighborhood, his owner should be given a fee until he trains his dog to be quiet. You can't punish all possible dog owners because ONE dog owner is a bad person. What you suggest would be unfair for those dog owners who are respectful and don't perturb their neighbors in any way.

Regarding keeping dogs into apartments, you are not right. A dog is more than happy to live with his family, no matter if they live in a small apartment or in a palace. Dogs are social animals and absolutely thrive on social interaction, communication and feedback from their owners. A dog that is left outside all day long is hundred times more sad than it is my dog who stays with us every minute.
The only condition is the owners must fulfill the dogs' need of exercising. I bet my dog is happier than many dogs who live in a house with a yard. She has more than three hours of exercising, socializing and playing every day unlike many dogs that live their whole life tied up in a big yard.
